Wearing an emblem that doesn't belong to you..is it right? |
| |
| Well here is my problem and for some of you it may not seem like a problem at all but for me it is.. Yesterday I was out with my husband and son and it was quite warm.My husband took off his jumper and he was wearing a US Marine tie. I said 'whats that emblem on the tie?' and he said it is the US marines tie. I said 'is that right for you to wear that then, if you are not a marine? 'and he said 'yes' but very much on the defensive. The thing is he has always been interested in Military and Uniform etc but he didn't join the army because he didn't like the idea of being shot. This is the same bloke who does voluntary police and has been injured a couple of times in fights(not gun related). Well, my conscience immediately shouts 'you havent earned it!' in my head but I just shrug. He sometimes wears combats when he is working on his bike but they are sold in the army surplus shop and have no special badges on.To me it is like wearing a hero's medals or calling yourself captain when you aren't. Am I being silly here? After all ,if he knew a marine in the US (which he doesn't) he might be given one as a present and he has swopped US and UK police memento's before with a US policeman. | | | | | |

| | I agree with you. The tie is part of the official Marine uniform. Wearing something to support the Marines is a little different like wearing a T-shirt with your favorite college name. Most people don't look at the T-shirt and automatically think you go to that school, just that you are a supporter of it. When they see the Marine tie, they would think your husband was a Marine. Ask him where he got it. | | | | | | |

| | Well I'm glad you don't think I'm being silly. I dont think he will tell me where he got it as it will just put him on the defensive again. The best I can do is ask he wears another tie if we are out. My father and Uncles were all in the Army and navy,my Uncle died onboard ship when in the Royal marines during WWII and its sort of uncomfortable for me that he can't see it is not right. | | | |

| | An emblem like the one you're husband is wearing is something respectable and should only be worn by those people who struggled to survive a series of tests and risks just to earn the title and be able to be given that emblem as their reward. I believe you're husband really likes the idea of getting into the marine but just haven't gotten enough courage to really get into it..and for him the emblem he got could somehow make himself believe that he has made his dream a reality. :P | | | | | | |

| | I don't know really on this one I hear what your saying and you are not being silly because you believe very strongly about this. I am not sure if he would see it as a fashion accessory though. Maybe that is how he see's it also it sounds like he is regretful that he never got to be a Marine or join the army and it is his way of wearing something that reminds him how much he wanted to go for that position. I think that is why he was being defensive. I think you need to tell him how you feel and listen to what he has to say and whether he feels it is right. Maybe you could ask him why he wants to wear it. I don't think he realises how much it means to you either and so you really need to be talking to each other about this. | | | | | | |

| | Do they have a reserve military or coast guard in the UK? They might take him at an older age. In the USA you go 1 week end a month and 2 weeks once in a year. Kind of like the boy scouts. LOL. But if they need you for war they might call you. | | | |

| | I think it would depend. It is always better to wear something that supports the organization an not part of their uniform. The Aryan Skinhead gang or whatever you want to call them use a clover to signify the leaders. They have no problem killing people who have a clover tattoo that are not leaders. | | | | | | |

| | Golly well Im glad he hasn't decided to have one of their tattoos then LOL He hasn't worn that tie at all since last Sunday so I think he might just keep it for a nice souvenir instead.I hope so. Even my son was uncomfortable walking with him while he was wearing it. | | | |

| | Maybe it would be better to have a collection of the items and to show his support with maybe a lapel pin or something like that. And no clover tattoos. LOL I saw a documentary about a penitentiary. The guards said you cover the tattoo, remove it or get killed. YIKES. Over here the guards let the prisoners establish the politics. Because they can't control them. Probably the same in the UK. Certain races control certain areas of the prison. The Hispanic's controlled the area by the toilet. So people had to take a gang with them or hold it. The guards said this. LOL. Yikes! | | | |

| | yes it probably would but he doesn't think he just goes and gets. We have a barracks right near here of the royal engineers and they look really smart when they do the saint georges day parade which is later this month. He hasn't worn the tie again since we first saw it so i think maybe he took the hint. | | | |
