Do you find a thunder storm soothing or frightening?

Thunderstorm - lightening dances across the sky

I guess it must depend on my mood because sometimes I find it absolutely soothing while other times it just keeps me awake and a bit scared. Last night we had a big thunder storm and while it woke me up it was so relaxing to fall asleep to. Everyone else complained it woke them up and kept them awake though! LOL

I used to not mind them, but in the past couple of years it seems most of them are severe and they scare me. When you look at the TV at all the devastation that the weather is causing, it is all scary.

I find a low rumble calming and like the sound and the lightening. Now a bad electrical storm , no. A low continous thunder which we'rre getting this morning is the typ I love , I just don't want the rain after.

I love thunder but hate lightening. I love to sit outside and watch a storm roll in and listen to all the noise, but once the bolts start shooting, i run for cover.

The only time it really upsets me, and then only for an instant, is when it literally hits RIGHT beside my house and sounds like it could have killed us! LOL Otherwise the lightening sort of enhances the storm for me.

I am actually quite afraid of thunder and lighting always have been. Some of the lighting is very pretty to look at, but it still scares the poo out of me. I get scared every spring/summer when we start to get thunder and lighting storms. I just plain don't like them.

I love laying in bed during a thunderstorm, especially with the window open. It is so soothing and relaxing. I love being in a tent in thunderstorms too. Ok, I just love a good thunder/lightning storm! ;~D

I'm not so sure about the tent one myself but I too love to hear and see it with the window open.

I have always loved thunderstorms and find then, soothing yet exhilarating (what an oxymoron) but never the less true for me.

I hate thunder and lightening. If they wake me, I am terrified. If it happens during the day, I will literally huddle with the dog on the couch until it passes.

Actually I like thunder storm. I do not fear or hate with it. I do not know why, but if it comes at night, I awake and enjoy it till it stops.

I love a good thunderstorm, especially when I am indoors (not so sure I would enjoy it if I was out walking), I open the curtains, and can sit for hours watching the lightning flash and the thunder roar. I actually bought a relaxation tape which was of a thunder storm, and its nice listening to that as well.

Depends on the mood. If I'm sound asleep already, I can sleep even better. But if I'm awake and know that there are tornado warnings going on and bad weather, I am very nervous, especially since Katrina. But if it's just a thunderstorm I can relax.

For most of my life, I was severely brontophobic (fear of thunder and lightening). Even now, if it is anything louder than a gentle rumbling, I am PETRIFIED! I literally have to hide under the covers until it passes (meanwhile my body is aching to get up and move the whole time as I am allergic to doing nothing). I know it sounds babyish, but... whatever works I guess. It's weird because my parents tell when I was a baby, I used to love thunder, and when I was a little kid, I remember not really minding it much. Then when I saw the destruction storms could do in extreme cases, it pretty much changed me forever... like post-traumatic stress without actually going through the trauma yourself. Just witnessing the footage on TV and in those documentaries that study the weather was more than enough for me!

I absolutely love thunderstorms! I love to see the lightening too. I have ever since I was a kid. Even if it does wake me up I don't care lol. I think their beautiful especially the "light show" the thunder can get a little scary if it's really close and loud, but it doesn't really bother me any!
