Who Was the Person Who Told You There Was No Santa Claus? |
|
...or did you figure it out for yourself?
The bearer of bad news was my grnadfather who had travelled from overseas to stay with us at the time. It was Christmas and when I talked about what Santa Claus was goign to get me that year he came out with "Santa Claus is your Mum and Dad!". I can't say I was THAT dissapointed - I was actually relieved because I was beginning to get suspicious - no matter how hard I tried to stay awake and catch him coming through the window we left open (didn't have a chimney), I never did catch a glimpse. The presents at Christmas were not what I asked of the Santa at the Shopping Centre, and we always left beer for Santa (none of the other kids at school left beer for him). Santa seemed to like the same beer as my dad. So....it was more like an "aha" moment for me.

2. jimbo45 (9407) | 3 years ago | Hold on a second.Who said that there is no Santa Claus. Thats just a sad cruel myth, isnt it? My whole life revolves round Santa coming down my lum and packing under the tree with gifts for me. I bought this house because its got 2 lums, and I thought that he would manage to get down both. Also, please explain then who the hell eats the food we leave out for him and Rudolph and company. You are wrong about this,I hope.

3. lonely_f16 (1560) | 3 years ago | me? my mother. I was really very excited for Christmas and then I told my mother I really like this and that for Christmas. Actually, she said my father was the Santa Claus. I really didn't believe at first but then it suddenly dawned on me that the pieces of puzzle fit.

4. Rozie37 (7142) | 3 years ago | My mother did not play that Santa stuff. My sisters and I never believed in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, or anything else that took our attention from God. We never went trick or treating, nor did we have a Christmas tree in our house. On special days like this we would go to church and they would have something special for us kids, but the focus stayed on Jesus. We got Christmas presents from everyone. Even some of the weirdest people gave us gifts. At least one year, I remember getting gifts from our managers office and the police department, and even the government bought us a truck load of gifts, including a pink Christmas tree, which we never saw, because my mom did not allow it in her house.

| countrylady28 (75) | 3 years ago | I'm not going to enforce "santa" in my home. I know a lot of you might think I'm "robbing my child of fun" or whatever, but when I found out that there was no Santa - I actually felt very betrayed. Everyone in my life was like "santa this and santa that". When I found out it was all false I was so disappointed. Not because there was no santa, but because that was the moment I felt like I had been made a fool of all of those years.
I'm not going to put my daughter through that. We will find lots of other ways to make holidays what they should be, celebrations of Jesus. My biggest challenge will be to make sure my kids don't spoil the santa/Easter Bunny thing for everyone else.
Don't get me wrong, my kids will get gifts and a hidden Easter basket, but they will know that mom and dad did this for them - not so we get "credit", but so they aren't believing a lie.

6. KissThis (2636) | 3 years ago | I am one of nine children by the time I came along they had given up on that story. I on the other hand have explained to my children that everyone in their own way is Santa Claus. When you think about it Santa Claus is the person that gives presents to all of the good boys and girls.Well every year that you buy a present for a child you are Santa Claus.

7. Poison_Girl (3318) | 3 years ago | Nobody told me about Santa Claus. I just kinda put all the pieces together when I caught my parents playing the Tooth Fairy. Then I kinda spoiled it for my younger sister. LOL

| 5ID3wind3r (42) | 3 years ago | That sounds kind of familiar, Poison ... I became suspicious of all of those entities the morning that I found an I.O.U. under my pillow instead of a quarter!!! (Oh, and by the way -- the I.O.U. directed me to henceforth wait until Fridays to be putting teeth under pillows.)

8. lonewolfnan (2839) | 3 years ago | I think my mom tried to keep the idea of Santa going as we would always put out the milk and cookies, but with 8 brothers and sisters(7 older than me) you KNOW they let me know pretty early that Santa was a myth.Plus,I remember when I was 6 I went to one store and there he was but when I went to the second store,he was there again!!I sure miss those simplier times though.

9. arkaf61 (5729) | 3 years ago | I don't remember how old I was, I think it happened gradually.
Back home we children are allowed to stay up after midnight on Christmas eve and we usually get our presents just after midnight.
There was always this noise coming out from the chimney area at midnight and it was supposed to be santa claus coming down with the presents.. but my dad would usually disappear around that time and then come back for us to go find the presents.
That coincidence each year led me to try and find out what was happening so I caught dad putting all the presents up hehe

I found a toy that Santa gave me and pretty much figured it out. Then told my sister. Its okay mom still has fun at christmas as "santa" giving us candy and little stuff

lpetges (2314) | 3 years ago | my mom and dad had to sit me down when i was in fourth grade. i was being made fun of, and fighting about it at recess one day, and had to go the office..my first time being sent to the principle! i will always argue my point to the end if i believe what i think is true...well it wasn't true! i was devastated! i cried for hours that nite, i couldn't believe my parents lied to me for so long! Now, as a parent-i let my children know that santa wasn't really real at an earlier age.
