Is Citizen Kane The Best Movie Ever Made?

Can you believe that's one of those movies that I never see. And it's so sad because anytime I go to rent something and there's nothing good out I always forget about movies like these. I need to make a list of classic movies I need to see. Like Gone with the Wind, never seen that one either.

It's definately one of the best. I think Casablanca and Gone With The Wind are up there too. The caliber of acting and writing and all the production skills that went into making them, especially at the time they were made. There's plenty of modern movies that I probably enjoy more, but there's something really special about those classics. You're right - there will never be anything quite like it.

With Citizen Kane Orson Welles' vision remade this thing we call film.

I don't think most of today's movie goers would care for it. There's a big difference between people who watch movies purely for entertainment and those who are true film lovers. It's black and white, it's slow, there are no big action scenes--boooring. Not my opinion, of course, because I like films that give you more than just a couple of hours entertainment. Welles was a genius, but one of those that's appreciated by comparatively few these days.
