A Tribute to Joni Mitchell  |

|  April 24th will see the release of "A Tribute to Joni Mitchell", a collection of Joni's songs interpreted by an eclectic group of artists.
I am a fan of tribute albums...even while acknowledging that many of them can be cheesy...and this one is of special interest not only because of Mitchell's amazing songs but also because the artists involved include some of my favorites. Included on the disc will be Emmylou Harris (covering "The Magdelene Laundries"), Cassandra Wilson ("For the Roses"), Prince ("A Case of You"), Bjork ("Boho Dance"), Elvis Costello ("Edith and the Kingpin"), Sufjan Stevens ("Free Man in Paris"), Annie Lennox ("Ladies of the Canyon"), k.d. lang ("Help Me"), James Taylor ("River"), Brad Mehldau ("Don't Interrupt the Sorrow", and Caetano Veloso ("Dreamland".

| |  I'll definately have to check that out. There are a lot of good artists covering her songs. I don't know a whole lot about Joni Mitchell - only the songs Tori Amos has covered. She is one of those artists I always mean to check out but never get around to. Thanks for sharing.

| |  I love Joni Mitchell and have nearly all her albums. She has such a great range in her voice and when my children were babies I used to play her music to them to send them to sleep.
I love The Conversation and her album dedicated to Mingus. She is a legend!
I haven't heard the tribute album, but I bet it does not come close to her original vocals.
Thanks for this post, its hard to find anyone who enjoys her music.

| | It's true that none of the songs on the tribute will make anyone forget the originals...hey, it's Joni! :-)...but some of the tracks are really interesting in their own right.
When I first got the "Mingus" album all those years ago it was all I played for days and days...I love that record and it's cool whenever I cross paths with someone else who liked it. | | | |
