Call it midlife crisis, a change of tastes or maybe 30 years of the same songs is long enough. I'm looking for a change.

Listening to one of the local Classic Rock stations, I noticed that the songs I've always loved just weren't doing it for me anymore. Looking through my guitar music books, I noticed that most of the songs are over 20 years old. I then turned to my CDs and MP3s. While the average was a lot newer, the latest release was Evanesence: Anywhere but Home.

I've always been into an eclectic range of music. I've bought Willie Nelson, Molly Hatchet, Ozzy and Beethoven CDs or Albums at the same time. I can talk about Gaelic Storm and Van Halen in the same conversation and Bob James sits between Iron Maiden and Eric Johnson on my shelf.

The thing is, it's been a long time since I've really kept up with anything new. So I figured I'd put the question to you...

What bands/albums/songs would you recommend I check out? What bands did you see in concert that amazed you? What CDs or Downloads have blown you away?

Help me rekindle my lifelong love for music!

I recommend a little folk group out of Virginia call 'eddie from ohio'. They play a great mix of acoustic and electric and have a unique sound. They mix a lot of humor into their lyrics. My favorite Cd of theirs is "Quick".

Their recorded stuff is good but they are awesome live. I've seen them about 7 times now and everytime its like seeing them is like the first time.

I went through this exact same phase several years ago. I have always loved the 70's and some 80's music, but I always listened to the top 40 hits of the time to stay abreast of things. When rap hit the top 40 I was hurting for some good new style music and rap was not it for me. So, like you I went back to favorites, but this did nothing for me. I was yearning for something different. I actually stopped listening to music for awhile to find that emptiness. Then one day I was doing some affirmations and wanted some nice sweet music in the background. I turned the TV to classical music. oh my goodness I was blown away and how this music got in my soul. This was my newfound genre that I had been overlooking for all those years. I am now addicted to some of the calssical music. I do not like it all, but I went online and found a lot I LOVED, I burned a cd and this is now the music I listen to when nothing else works. Can you believe it from rock n roll to classical, how bizarre!

Yeah that would seem bizarre. You should have seen the look on music store clerk's faces when I would buy a metal, a country and a classical album or tape at the same time.;~D

Most the classical I've heard doesn't do a thing for me. Beethoven's 5th Piano Concerto (Emporer) always gets me going, and of course everything on the first two Time/Life "Classical Thunder"... in fact, to me, those should be considered the "Greatest Hits" for classical music.;~D

go to the yahoo music listen to everything there it has all genres listed, i found several songs and bands i never heard of that i may like LOL, then download limewire or frostwire and type in things download songs then delete them if you don't liek them, would rather download for free and see if they suck or not before spendign money on them. but then with limewire you can keep the music burn cd's and its all free, i prefer various artists cd's myself anyway

I've tried that, but as with all other generations of music, there is too much poppy crap out there. I found that I have to wade through hours of Akon, Justin Timberlake, Ludacris and Ciara to find anything I can sink my teeth into.

Thanks for the comment!

I tend to listen to a Canadian station because I'm right across the lake from Ontario so I have a love for a lot of Canadian based bands.

Try Big Sugar. While they're no longer a "group" their music is sort of a cross between Clapton, ZZTop and maybe a little Eagles kinda mixed in?

I also love Hinder, 30 Seconds to Mars, 3 Doors Down and the band that's infamous for their YouTube video with the treadmills, Ok Go.
