I like graffiti. I think it's a great kind of art and it's important like other artistic currents like Cubism or Fauvism, for instance.
My favourite graffiti artists are Keith Haring and Basquiat, they were really great.
I live in Italia, in my countries you can't easily find graffiti, you can find it only in the big towns like Roma, Bologna, Milano.... I live in a little town and I can find only a few graffiti. It's a pity, I like graffiti so much....

It depends on where it is and what it's of. I have seen some incredible art on some building downtown and busted a couple of the street artists at work. I was really shocked that they were so young and had so much talents. I am currently trying to get them in to some local art programs so their talents aren't wasted. In most cases it is illegal to 'tag' or paint common areas and locations so I am hoping that getting them into an art program will keep them from getting in trouble.
To me it's art ... unless it is some random act of spray painting over something like a sign, statue or other art.

of course its and art form. i love the look of SOME of it. i havent personally seen very much of it because of were i live. but i agree if it is an old building. it can sometimes make it more pleasing to look at.

i think graffiti is gorgeous and is definately an art form. i think if anything it adds to the aesthetic value of buildings and cities. adds culture and personality. i love it.

When the graffiti artist is really talented and makes a beautiful picture, then yes, I think it's beautiful and art. It may even ADD to the aesthetic quality of buildings. But when the graffiti artist is just spraying random paint around to deface property, then no it's not art. I've seen some AMAZING graffiti art in the city and truly wish I could create art like that.

In the right place it can be very affective, some of these guys are very talented, I see also where they do great damage to private homes and the walls of businesses but sometimes I think if I had a big white wall that would probably attract damge I would actually pay a couple of these people to do one big picture on that wall, for me seeing as I loved the 60's era I would pay them to do a wall depicting the 60's...I think many companies could probably do the same , hire them to do a piece of art to suit business...

I think it certainly is an art form, but that doesn't mean that it always looks good. Like all art it works in the right place and at the right time but not when it is just produced by kids messing around and trying to just make a mark on a wall or building or something to be rebillious.

In sydney, graffiti has been a seriosu problem, you can always see graffiti at the train station, subway, or at the corner of a street.
1 month ago in sydney, there was a video being upoloaded on the youtube showing five to six people got into the rail terminal and spray some paint onto the train carriage, and they 'crowned' themselves '' graffiti artist ( not sure about the name ).
I do not know how to appreciate art,, not even graffiti, i just know much money had to be spent to clear them, they only cause damage to the beautiful buildings and destroy the walls of the streets.
May be the government should allocate some areas for those artists to show their drawings to the public.
Those graffiti makers should be punished .

ive seen some nice graffiti in toronto before and it is like art. graffiti just happens, even when it is illegal. i'd say it will not take value away from buildings if the buildings are old looking and adds value to a city.people shouldnt vandalize new buildings because that is like property damage. I used to live in Toronto and the graffiti makes my memories of the city more colorful. so i like graffiti for the most part
