Widescreen or Full Screen

When you rent or buy DVDs, which do you prefer, the widescreen version or the fullscreen version. I prefer the widescreen version. I feel like I'm missing part of the movie otherwise.

I prefer the full screen version of DVDs/movies. I'm not a big fan of the black horizontal bars underneath the picture, and to me, it makes me not be able to focus my attention on the movie itself. When the first widescreen DVDs came out, it drove me nuts, and I wasn't able to watch them very well, now I'm used to it, but I still don't prefer it.

He he, thanks to both of you for your responses. I have heard the same thing from other people. I barely seem to notice it. The only thing I notice is that the picture is a little smaller. I've tried full-screen and I just keep feeling that I'm missing something and I can't stand it.

I used to rent the full screen because like someone else said the black lines bugged me! LOL My husband got me into watching widescreen by telling me that I would be able to see more of the movie and now I don't mind watching a movie either way.

There was a time when I used to hate widescreen, but I've come to appreciate it and I now prefer it.

I perfer the full screen version because I also hate to see the black lines. I like for the film to fill the whole screen. The movie just looks better full screen.

I prefer widescreen, I like to see the whole image/video. It's larger.

Thanks to you three also. I'm glad to see that a couple of other people prefer widescreen. I just feel that I am seeing it like it was seen at the theater.

Widescreen only because I have a widescreen TV. Otherwise a fullscreen version is more to my preference.

My husband and I just got a 32 inch AKAI flat screen television with HD capabilities through dish network satellite. The first time I watched a nature program where the program filled the whole screen it amazed me. It is just like you are right there and it is absolutely beautiful. I have watched DVD's on the television and I definitely watch the widescreen. It makes so much difference and you don't feel like you are missing out on some of the movie.

I would love to have a big screen tv like that. Many of them won't fit in my small apartment. But, maybe in the future.

If there are no subtitles, I would prefer the fullscreen version. Otherwise, I would like to watch a movie in its widescreen version. I have tried switching to the fullscreen wherein there were subtitles but I don't like it because the more the screen becomes big, the subtitles would follow also. So it's no longer convenient to watch. :)

I know what you mean about subtitles. I also like to use the captioning and I've noticed that they will play in the black bar rather than in the picture when you used widescreen.

We get the full screen, because its easier for the roomie to see since the action is larger on the screen

I prefer full screen. Sure, wide gives you some "extra" footage, but atleast, with full you don't get the black line on the top or bottom. That is the only thing that upsets me is the big black lines on both sides.

wide screen is a better format, you see so much more in the picture.i also think that when most people realize you get more picture with wide screen than full screen, that they too will prefer wide screen

I wonder if you will be right. I think movie purists like the widescreen version more often. But, a lot of other people may like it if they tried it. I hardly notice the black lines.

Widescreen, as I would rather it be seen as intended and not skewed.
