The TALLEST TOWER  email this discussion to a friend?

The world's tallest free-standing structure is the 1815 foot CN Tower in Toronto, Canada. It is not exactly a building, since it does not have stories. "Free-standing" means it supports its own weight and is not attached to anything. Brave visitors csan walk across the glass floor at the 1122-foot level.

I beg to differ! The Petronius Platform is a deepwater oil platform operated by Chevron Corporation and Marathon Oil in the Gulf of Mexico, 210 km southeast of New Orleans.A compliant piled tower design, it is 610 meters (2,001 feet) high, arguably the tallest free-standing structure in the world, although this claim is controversial since only 75 meters of the platform are above water.
