are collectors like me a little bit insane?

i collect barbies and other dolls, especially reborn dolls. I have about 500 barbies and now 10 reborn dolls. Every time i show my collection to other persons, there are two kind of reactions. The first possibility is that the people are enthusiastic, and want to know everything about the dolls. The second group of people is the kind of people, who really have no idea why you do such a senseless thing like collecting. Their favorite question is: Do you eanr money with this? and if i say no, i spend more than i earn, they get even more confused. Why the hell you do it then? is written in their face. Because i like it! And why you like it? This is the point where igive up most. I could say, because dolls are beautiful, but this is not the reason why i collect dolls. I dont know why i collect dolls. I dont collect stamps, cars, money, i collect dolls. Can any collector tell me why he collects what he collects? Are we really a little bit insane? and if, is this bad????

I think it is a good thing for people to have a collection of some sorts. I do not think you or any other collector are crazy. Unless, your hobby is to collect junk well then thats another story, lol. I used to collect Beanie Babies, but stopped when it got a little overwhelming. I just liked the trill of going out hunting down the ones you are missing or some of the more rare items in the collection. I do not think it is a waste of money either because I think of it as more as an investment. Most collections do have some value over time. THat is my personal opinion.
