Don't you find V for Vendetta is very related to George Orwell's 1984?

Yes I think the film (or at least the original comic strip) has borrowed some ideas from 1984. If they also would have had the simplification of English language (remember doubleplusgood? :) ) I would have thought the movie is referring to the same period as 1984 did.

Interesting. I' haven't read the original comic strip, I'll have to read it. I have been told Orwell's world was inspired on communist system, as he has experienced in the URSS. I find V for Vendetta has a newer vision, because it talks about terrorism and control by medicine enterprises... This crazy film talks about everything!!!

I havent read 1984 so far (what a shame! =S), but as far as I know about the original work, a lot of it and a lot of V are about the same ideas.
It's interesting how both of them are England-connected. And England today has 1/5 of all the security cams in the world.

..speaking of "big brother" - London has many cameras throughout the city, but I heard a report today that now they have made a speaking camera.. the person monitoring can speak to the person on the street.. correcting behavior, saying things like "please pick up your litter you just dropped" - this may sound good to some, but it seems real Orwellian to me!

I haven't seen 'V for Vendetta' yet, partially due to my arrogant anti-Hollywood snobbishness, but am now intrigued, having studies the novel at school (as well as Animal Farm, Catalunia, Road to Wigan Pier) and enjoyed the film version starring John Hurt as Winston Smith!
Will get back to you on this one.

now let me think I watched this movie lat night for the 8th time I'm sure..and you yes it does have many of the undertones of 1984..the voice of England definitely the big brother the ever watching eye of censorship, I just love this movie..what art was suitable. down to only the elite eating butter it was amazing. the best connection to 1984 I do feel is television the mind control people just swept up it is lies. It was amazing how just a small change in a picture and suddenly they believe a whole scenario that never happened..isn't that CNN now?
hmm makes you think
great topic

Nice comment, thanks. I have seen the movie a lot of times too, it is actually my work refference by now. But towards to their view of TV, I have remarked that there is a big difference: Vendetta's world censorship has been broken by a character, and the result was really fun and made me think a lot.
