I feel it is very important to use the handbreak in my car. I woudn't even consider driving my car if I thought the handbreak was faulty. Every time I stop my car at traffic lights or in queues I always put the handbreak. If a car was to bump into my rear and I didn't have the handbreak on, I would be pushed forward into the car in front of me and then I would be liable for any damage caused.

do you know in some case people use hand break of their cars more often on some case like drifting racing, they use it alot to break and turn tighter corners, if you ever see the move fast and furios tokoyo drift there is alot of hand breaking and racing at the same time it is fun but hard to do.

oh here I am ...I am used to using it whenever I park and I advice everybody to do so because it is safer and it will avoid you many problems like looking at your car running past you aftre parking it as happened to a friend of mine...or like having your car crashed by a car with nobody driving it...it was a car parked withour the hand break that fall down the street and crashed with my brother's car...he and his wife were just about to put their shopping into the car when...when they lost their car...and fortunately they were not wounded in this "funny" accident...then a lady came..complaining about her car "leaving its parking area"...can you imagine something funnier but it was really dangerous and expensive!!!

I use it every time as I have a 5 speed trans and keep in the proper gear depending upon the incline.

I always use the hand brake on the car, it's force of habit I guess, but even when I stop at traffic lights I will always put the hand brake on, it saves the brake fluid as well, and gives my feet a rest! I would never relax if I left my car without putting the hand brake on, even on flat roads!

The only time I use my hand brake is when I am in a hilly area. If I park on a slope of some sort, I like the reassurance that I have applied my hand brake.
That, and I turn the wheels toward the curb just in case...that way, the turn will help to keep my car put too. :)

Well .. I use my handbrake quite a lot .. everytime you are in a queue of traffic and come to a halt it is advisable to take the car out of gear and use the handbrake .. every time you stop and get out of the car you need to be putting the handbrake on for parking ..
In hilly areas you should also 'toe in' the wheels towards the curb so that if the handbrake should fail (and they can do you know!) the car won't rolll down the hill but get stopped by the curb ..

I always use the handbrake when parking and if on an incline I'll leave the car in gear as well. Also when waiting at traffic lights and T-junctions I'll use the handbrake to save the wear on the clutch and engine.

Yes. Definitely. If i don't use my handbreak then.. i am afraid soemthing might happen.
I had this experience (not involving my car), a bus hit cars and almost a group of people because the driver parked the bus without use the handbreak.

This question is only pertinent for those who use automatic gear car. In Portugal almost all cars are manual transmission and you have to use the hand brake. If you don't your car is going to walk alone against something. The hand break is the only way to stop the car when you are parking, at least in manual gear cars.

I do use the handbrake when I was driving a car with manual gear switching. I used it when I need to stop where there is slope. I am not able to control my brake very well. With automatic gears, I doubt it is necessary to use the handbrake. I have not driven a auto one before :P
