do you think electronic toys are too loud?  email this discussion to a friend?

Most toys nowadays are electronic. Some have two buttons for the volume, and I think even the quieter one is too loud. Honestly do they think our kids are deaf? Some things are ok but I've found that most of them are much too loud. What do you think? I konw it has stopped me from buying some toys. You think its cute until you start pressing buttons and then the obnoxious sound follows you as you run out of the aisle!

Yes I hate some of those toys, but my cousin gave me a great tip for minimizing the annoyance level. Find the speaker and put scotch tape completely covering it, it does nothing but quiet the device down significantly. I have used this on a few of my daughters less charming toys to my everlasting satisfaction.

What a great tip! I'll definitely be using some scotch tape on some of my son's toys! ;o)

I've heard of using scotch tape, however most of the speakers on my daughters toys are really big and she would just pick at the tape until it came off. I think I'll just take the batteries out! LOL

Actually I thought my daughter would pick at the tape too, but even on the ones with really big speakers she has ignored the tape.

I definitely agree. Whatever happened to using your imagination with toys? I feel like some toys, with all their noise and such takes away some of the imagination kids might otherwise have used. I do believe that a lot of the electronic toys are much too loud, especially for very young children.

LOL My son has a dirt devil vaccum that is so loud that i have hidden it behind the sofa! I can't take the noise from it. Every toy is on the quietest setting and is still too loud. Even for my ten year old! LOL

My daughter got a guitar for Christmas and I swear that thing will turn up louder than a regular boom box of course its her favorite! I don't know why they make the toys have such loud sounds on them.

YEs I have to agree!! I can't hardly stand toys anymore that make so much noise!! Especially when someone buys your child something and it is really annoying on top of being loud! We sometimes put duct tape over the speaker holes to make it quieter, but usually I will take the batteries out or give the toy away!

I find many of them to be loud and annoying, it's ok if the child is in their room playing, but if they're coming in while you're trying to concentrate on something, or watch a show or something and they start playing with the electric toys, then it can be a pain in the butt.

Yeah, we have a few toys that are really loud. When we are the ones buying them (and we usually are because we live so far from home), we listen to them in the store. If they are really loud, and we can see the speaker, we skip them. If the speaker is hidden, we sometimes go ahead and buy the toy, and just put tape over it like other people have suggested. My son is becoming quite the little pro at taking tape off of things, so the speaker has to be covered with fabric or something for us to buy loud toys now.
Our other rule with loud toys is that the battery compartment has to have a screw on cover. Our remote controls are all wrapped in tape now, because our son has an obsession with batteries. He gets them out of anything he can!

I think I'm starting to just tune all that stuff out. My son recently got an Elmo workbench (which is so great for those mechanical kids), it is so annoying though, it sings "elmo's working on the toolbench, and building with it's friends...". After awhile I tuned it out, it was in the living room, and forgot about it. My hubby came home after being at work for 4 weeks straight and he couldn't stand it and turned it off. It's now in my sons room so we can't hear it. I really do like wooden toys for my son, they make no noise unless he's banging them against the wall.

Yes I do think that most electronic toys are far too loud, they can give you a headache, I do not understand why they have to be like this. They may not feel that our kids are deaf but they certainly will make them deaf with there loud noises.
