Does you or your mate snore? |
| |
| How does it effect your relationship? Are you both about ready to sleep in different rooms due to lack of sleep ------------------------- I am the snorer in this family, I admit it, I snor bad, I sound like a train going through the house. So many times I wake up and my husband is on the couch, not only due to the snoring, but he says I fight in my sleep, and I talk too. It really bothers him, I do not know I do it, I am asleep, all I know is in the morning, I am more tired than I was when I went to bed. ------------------------- Did you know that is a medical condion? Sleep Apnea, I am giving you some info on it, I do hope you read it, and take it to heart, sleep apnea can be deadly also. Please read.... ---------------------------- The most common kind of sleep apnea is called Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome. Sleep apnea means "cessation of breath." It is characterized by repetitive episodes of upper airway obstruction that occur during sleep, usually associated with a reduction in blood oxygen saturation. In other words, the airway becomes obstructed at several possible sites. The upper airway can be obstructed by excess tissue in the airway, large tonsils, a large tongue and usually includes the airway muscles relaxing and collapsing when asleep. Another site of obstruction can be the nasal passages. Sometimes the structure of the jaw and airway can be a factor in sleep apnea. ----------------------------------------- What are the symptoms? excessive daytime sleepiness frequent episodes of obstructed breathing during sleep. (The patient may be unaware of this symptom -- usually the bed partner is extremely aware of this). loud snoring morning headaches unrefreshing sleep a dry mouth upon awakening chest retraction during sleep in young children (chest pulls in) high blood pressure overweight irritability change in personality depression difficulty concentrating excessive perspiring during sleep heartburn reduced libido insomnia frequent nocturnal urination (nocturia) restless sleep nocturnal snorting, gasping, choking (may wake self up) rapid weight gain confusion upon awakening --------------------------------- It is a potentially life-threatening condition that requires immediate medical attention. The risks of undiagnosed obstructive sleep apnea include heart attacks, strokes, impotence, irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure and heart disease. In addition, obstructive sleep apnea causes daytime sleepiness that can result in accidents, lost productivity and interpersonal relationship problems. The severity of the symptoms may be mild, moderate or severe -------------------------------- Please with this, if this is going on please go get tested!!! Do you think you or someone in your family have this? I know that I do. | | | | | |

| | yes my mate has been snoring all of his life. Even as a child. I don't know if he has been tested for sleep apnea or not. He doesn't complain about it. Never talks about headaches or feeling tired etc. | | | | | | |

| | Have you noticed him fighting in his sleep? Stop breathing for a short peroid of time? i rarely have headaches when I wake up, but I am very tired. might want to ask him these questions, if he has done it since he was a child, he may be used to them, and not give them a second though. | | | |

| | Actually both my boyfriend and I snore. I snore because or colds and or allegories. I have been tested and basically that is what the doctors have told me. My boyfriend snores but not to the point that it disrupts his sleep nor mine. I do not think he has very been tested nor will he unless he does something like stop breathing while he is asleep and I notice it. He would have no choice but to see a doctor at that point. My old house mate had, might still have, sleep apnea and had to wear a mask when she went to sleep. | | | | | | |

| | My partner snores. He went to a sleep clinic some time ago - he stops breathing several times a night. I had told him long time ago that he did this - and he told his physician. The doctor said it didn't sound right - but it was right! i am glad he went to the sleep clinic. They might operate, but they want to wait and see for a while. he is currently loosing weight - that helps a lot. He has also gotten some spray that he is to use every evening, + he uses Breath right strips to open his airways. We sleep in seperate rooms most of the time anymore. Neither of us gets good sleep if he snores - I become frustrated and loose my sleep - I wake him up trying to get in to change positions etc etc | | | | | | |

| | Thanks for the info, I too am the snorer of the family, my Mother was a huge snorer and as a child we used to kid that we could hear her down the street, now I seemed to blessed, not as badly, but yes, it does cause problems in my relationship. I have been with my boyfriend a year and we have lived together for the past 6 months but last night was the first time he ever said to me that he needed to go to sleep before me cause I kept him awake all night, I doubt he would ever go to the couch to sleep, but he would remind me the next day at how bad I made him feel to sleep or not to sleep through my snoring. | | | | | | |

| | Maybe if you show him this information, he will understand, it would be a good idea for you to get tested. Snoring does cause problems in relationships, many of them. And when it is so easy to rectify the situation. | | | |

| | My partner is a snorer, however i will not seperate us, i dont believe in sharing seperate beds, bedtime is a very intimate time and for bonding also, so i will wake him up and tell him everytime he snores, i find that i only have to do this within the first half an hour of him going to sleep as he then rolls on to his side or tummy. The only time he snores is when he is laid on his back! He doesnt mind me waking him up as he cant even remember the next day, so it works ok both ways really and we both end up having a restful nights sleep. The only thing that does worry me, is when he is laid on his back snoring, he all of a sudden stops breathing and holds his breath for ages, some times i think hes not going to start again, after a long pause he does a snorting sound and starts breathing again, can be quite scary but iv heard it can be quite common. There is no particular reason he does this, he isnt overweight in the slightest, not a snorer, doesnt have a pattern to when he does it (ie after he's had a drink.) No other symptoms however so i dont think its anything to worry about. I do sincerely sympathise with couples who have snoring problems, as it isnt nice to be kept awake with it, however its not nice been told off for snoring when you cant help it, i think it definately takes a strong bond to remain in the same bed! | | | | | | |
