J.D. Sallinger was responsible for writing my favorite ever book,Catcher in the Rye. I think that based in what he wrote and how he wrote the book, that I would have liked him as a person.Such an uplifting piece of literature.Go Holden. Whats your favorite book, and do you think you would like the author and have anything in common with them.Let me know,I think this is quite an original question so I hope I get some good responses.Could be quite funny.

1. sumofalltears (2647) | 3 years ago | I don't have any one favorite author or book, I read so many that I really can't choose just one favorite. But those authors that I do read I think I would enjoy their company tremendously, just for the sake of talking about their books. I read mostly fiction and science fiction so that should tell you something.

2. ItTakesAllSorts (2208) | 3 years ago | My favourite writer is Emile Zola. I am very curious about what makes people tick and the different kinds of lifes people live. The darker the better, the twists within relationships between different people and tormented souls are very interesting.
His novel L'Assommior, about the impoverished working class and Therese Raquin are the best novels I have read. I would have loved to have known this man. His writings are so passionate and thought provoking you feel as if you are there. I have never met a man that is so tuned in to what people are like, I would love to meet someone with such knowledge and passion!!
If you ever get the chance read some of his work.
On the more modern writer it has to be John Irving, another writer who shows the darker side of human nature!!

4. raydene (5312) | 3 years ago | When I was in hs and college my favs of the classics were Edgar Allen Poe,Pearl S.Buck,John Stienbeck..Stienbeck can take you right there ..I mean while reading about the USA during the depression, droughts,I would find myself tasting the dust and hearing the wind blow, the cry of hungry babies in the night and the grief of tears shed for a loved one dying before their time..He could take one page, fill it so full of expression. Thanks for bringing it up Jimbo..I had forgotten how much I enjoyed Stienbeck...I guess I'll have to read him again.. Today my favs are Sara Donadi,Jean Auel,Diana Gabaldon,Pat Conroy,Margaret Coel..

5. jchampany (689) | 3 years ago | This is definitely an original discussion Jimbo. I don't have a favorite book but I do have a favorite author. I love Dean Koontz. His books are so involving. Also, most of his books are based in Southern California, so for me it is even more interesting because I can relate with the descriptions of the places he is talking about. I even know where they are and have been to some of those places myself.
I don't know that, if I knew him, we would be friends. A mind that can come up with some of the strange things he does, somewhat scares me. I don't think he is a bad person by any means, just a little odd. Good post though. Thanks.

|
jimbo45 (9407) | 3 years ago | I wonder about Koontz sometimes. To much out of the King mould for me.Its H.P.Lovecraft I would like to have an audience with.Gothic does it for me.Koontz isnt bad at all,I think most works of genius do seem strange sometimes, its cos he lets his mind drift to another level.
| |
|
|
jchampany (689) | 3 years ago | You're right, he is alot lot King. I don't know if I want my mind drifting to that other level though, so I will stick with smart but not genious. lol.

Withoutwings (4690) | 3 years ago | I would like to meet Koontz. I have so many questions for him. He is really interesting and comes up with some really strange and twisted ideas. I'd like to ask him a lot about "The Taking."
| |
|
|
jimbo45 (9407) | 3 years ago | Try some Lovecraft, that would really get your mind wandering,

6. Withoutwings (4690) | 3 years ago | I don't have just one favorite author. I like Francesca Lia Block. she has such a way with words. She makes normal every day things seem magical. I think that I would like spending time with her. She describes beautiful places, interesting people, and lovely food combinations. I'd love for her to show me around California... the way she sees it. I also like Laurell K. Hamilton but I don't know if we would really get along in person. She is into fairies and vampires and that's cool... but I don't know if that is enough. I also like Christopher Moore and I find him to be incredibly funny. I think we would have an amusing time. Finally I like Jane Austen and Sylvia Plath, but I think that they are both so tragic in their own ways.

jimbo45 (9407) | 3 years ago | I am not that well read, the only ones of all who you mention, that I know of,are the last to.And I didnt like Pride and Pred at all.Tragic indeed and to nice for me.

Withoutwings (4690) | 3 years ago | I prefer Sense and Sensability or Northinger Abbey to Pride and Prejudice.

|
|
Withoutwings (4690) | 3 years ago | Perhaps Poe might be interesting to meet as well.
| |
|
|
jimbo45 (9407) | 3 years ago | Poe should be on my list, but some of the things that he did that were dramatised on tv were crap, put me off a bit

9. ScotsFerret (313) | 3 years ago | One of my favourite books is James Herbert's The Rats, it was one of the first books I remember reading for pleasure and ever since I have had a thing for Herbert's books and similar books/authors. I don't know about having anything in common but I think I would like to spend time with him and have the chance to find out more about where he gets his ideas from, I would also like to hear his views on what he would consider to be a good age to start reading his books.

|
jimbo45 (9407) | 3 years ago | Never heard of him.I will take your word for it though. The very fact that Rats are mentioned make it sound ok to me.

10. suspendedindusk03 (266) | 3 years ago | The Catcher in the Rye is one of my favorite books too. If I ever have another son, I've been thinking I would name him Holden. I really couldn't say that I would have liked J.D. Salinger as a person or not, though. But if I were to guess, I'd say I would probably get along with him just fine, seeing as I try to be a friendly person to everyone.
Other favorite books of mine are Stephen King's Dark Tower series, The Stand, and IT. I believe I would definitely like Stephen King as a person. He's got such a great imagination that I think it would certainly be very interesting to know Stephen King personally.

jimbo45 (9407) | 3 years ago | Holden would be a good name, and I am sure JD would be chuffed that you had named your son after his most famous creation.I think you would get on fine.Im not really a King person, not gory enough for me,Im a Lovecraft freak
