Waiting for someone that's not coming back. Why dump a dog? |
| |
| It has happened again. Look at my picture and tell me why you wouldn't want this dog? Since yesterday morning there is a little brown dog sitting at the end of our driveway. We live out in the country, but just 1/2 mile off a main road. Last year some one left Luke, he is now enjoying having us as a family. Our driveway is long, and we are the first house on top of a hill. Perfect for dumping an unwanted animal. This is the sweetest little female, she seems very loving and smart, probably not 1 year old yet. I have made several trips to the end of the driveway, taking her food and she comes to the yard to get a drink. But she goes back by the road where she was probably dropped off. It is so pitiful, it's like she thinks she's supposed to wait there until her owners come back. We have talked to the neighbors, and the mail carrier, no one has seen her before. We will eventually gain our trust, she likes us, just thinks she has to wait. We will keep her, name her, love her. She will have a good home. She will need vet care (has fleas & ticks, no collar) and she will have to be spayed. We have a new set of problems, because we have to take care of ANOTHER dogs needs. But we will, out of love. I don't know why people do this. I suppose they don't want or can't take care of them. But do people realise that they don't always have a good place to take them in, and may starve, get ran over by a car, or attacked by other dogs? I have a lot of emotions going through me now. Perhaps we can find her a good home, but my big heart already loves her. What do you think? How or why can people do this? | | Little brown dog with no name yet | | | | |

| | People can be cruel. We use to live on a real country road and we had several dogs dumped off and cats. The worse thing was that some were thrown from moving cars so they ended up with broken hips. I do not know why people get an animal and treat it that away. There are other options and no reason not to use them. Good luck with the doggy and I hope she is ok. | | | | | | |

| | Here in our county, we have "no kill" shelters, they just have to drive around 15 miles... | | | |

| | Amen. A special hell. Why not get them spayed, we have a good low cost system here. | | | |

| | That's the thing though, getting an animl neutered before another half a dozen innocent lives get tossed into the mill takes common sense, decency and compassion. I am fairly militant on this subject, but I have one in my kitchen who I found dumped as a pup, and another who is nearly 15 whp has travelled the world with me, so there was no shorage of excuses for taking the easy way out and leaving him to be someone else's responsibility. I have a personal saying, "I wouldn't reat my dog like that." It seems not everyone shares it, but I hope you get a Bazillion responses to this discussion, and they help defray the costs of your generosity. | | | |

| | Thank God for people like you who come to the rescue of the many unwanted pets in our world. I, too, don't understand how someone can be so cruel as to dump an animal on the side of the road, not knowing where it will end up (or I guess not even caring), who will claim it, whether or not he will even survive. Your heart is good, and I'm certain that this dog is incredibly lucky to have entered your life. | | | | | | |

| | She knows how to "sit" on command, I saw her "stand" at a tree earlier, I think she will "tree" squirrels! No one here hunts them though. | | | |

| | My heart just aches for that little pooch. I am glad that she found your drive to sit at. I can't understand why people think the dog (or cat) is better in the wild than at an animal shelter, where they are fed, bathed, doctored up, and hopefully, have a chance at a loving home. Give your little girl a squeeze from me. It probably won't be too long before she'll start calling you "mom!" :) | | | | | | |

| | How can someone be so cruel.. She looks an adorable little dog.. Cant stand to see dogs abandoned like that. It reminds me when I was in my early 20s we found a little black and tan coloured pup just wandering the housing estate where I lived He must have been no older than 4 months, He was just wandering aimlessly. We took him in and fed him, then took him around as many houses as we could trying to find out if he had got out by accident, no body ever claimed that little dog, we advertised did everything we could to locate his owners, kept him for 3 weeks, but cos we was in a flat where we wasnt allowed cats or dogs we eventually had to take him to an animal shelter or risk eviction ourselves! But I must admit we got attatched to the little fella! So it was hard Lynn-Marie | | | | | | |

| | I bet that was hard for you. You did a kind and wonderful thing. Out here in the country, we can keep her and she will have a good life. She can play with our lab dog, Luke, who really is a HUGE pup himself. She is really a very pretty dog. Just last year, we had an old dog (12years) named "Sugar" passed away, she looks a lot like her. | | | |

| | Yep it was hard, but we knew it was for the best, at least the shelter where we took him didnt put animals down if they was healthy, they would keep them til someone adopted them that really wanted them, and the best thing about the shelter they did Background Checks on all potential new adoptees before any dog or cat went with them. So at least he will have got a good caring home. Lynn-Marie | | | |

| | Im a big time animal lover as well and have no idea why these people will do this to their animals. I myself rescued a really abused pitbull puppy over 3 years agoand this dog is my biggest love now. Im glad to hear that there's still people out there that are willing to take on the responsiblity of other pet owners pets and care for them. I think you should be rewared and Ill be looking forward to hearing updates about your new member to your family. | | | | | | |

| | I could have cried when I read about the little dog. I can just imagine her sitting waiting for her ex-owners to come and fetch her. Dogs are so loyal. Some people just should not be allowed to have pets. Maybe we should all do a test of some sort (like a licence) to see if we are capable of looking after them. I also think all animals should be registered with the local animal authorities and all females spayed unless breeding. I realise it is a lot of work (and would cost money) but it would cut down on animal abuse and a lot of unwanted animals. I am really happy that she has found a loving home now. Please let us know when she settles and how she is doing! Take care! | | | | | | |

| | Well, I could cry every time I look out there and see her laying there, looking towards the road. She stands up when a car comes by, it worried me at first, thinking she'd get in the road, but what she's doing is looking to see if it's her car. I've coached her to the house, she keeps going back, I just wonder how long... I agree with you, there needs to be something done. We have laws against dumping animals, but this is done in the night where no one can see who it is. Big Man, (or woman). | | | |

| | That's so lucky of this cute little dog to have found a caring and loving shelter in your house. I personally love dogs... there are some stray dogs in our estate which we feed everyday and let play with our own dogs... It does feel great seeing those once "unwanted" dogs happy at our front yard. | | | | | | |

| | It reminds me on my beloved mother in law. She just keep every cat that got dump and lost in her garden. It was raised up to 16 cats !!! and new stranded cats keep coming especially in summer vacation. But in the end we have to hand them to an animal protection or animal asylum to give those cats to people that really wants to have them. 16 cats was just too much also for her financial, so she decided to keep only 2 of them. My mother in law died 2 years ago and strange enough that her cats (out of the blue) died few days after her. For us was really unbelievable how people decided to have pets and they just dumped them when they can't find away to take care of them while they were on vacation..... | | | | | | |

| | I don't understand why people dump animals either. The can take them to the humane society and they will be taken care of. People are so careless. It is nice you take them in. | | | | | | |
