I agree with you. The reason for a baby shower is to get the things needed for your first baby. After you have one baby, you really don't need much but the clothes and diapers. We always will buy an outfit for the 2nd child when it is born. I would never throw myself a baby shower! Sorry, but that is weird to me. It is like saying, come on over and bring me some gifts. Why don't you wait until you have the baby and are storng enough to have people over. Have your fiances family over to meet the new baby and then if they would like to bring you a gift you won't feel like you are asking for it.

You aren't supposed to throw your own baby shower! its tacky and white trashy and greedy. besides, at nearly due date, who wants to be cooking and claning for guests you don't want. I suggest that if they really want one, you suggest they have one and donate everything to a local women's shelter in your baby's name. Just see if the idea of a baby shower doesn't suddenly become a very bad idea.

Welcome to my lot.That sucks. The one having the baby isn't supposed to throw their own baby shower friends and family is supposed to do that for the mother to be.
I never had a single baby shower I had all my children and had to buy every thing I needed myself. And I came from a very large family. But then I am the black sheep of the family. Sounds like your right they was looking for all the free food! I would tell them if they wanted me to have a baby shower then they should throw one for me.Lots of luck on your new baby. I wouldn't throw myself a shower either. I did have one for both of my kids though, they were 4 years apart and we didn't have anything from my daughter, so when I got pregnant with my son we had to get everything all over again. If they mention it tell they they can throw one for you but you would feel weird doing it yourself. You can always use diapers, wipes and all that. You could have an "essentials" shower where everyone just brings siapers, wipes, shampoo, lotion, stuff like that for the baby. I don't think there is anything wrong with having a shower for your second baby though. That baby is just as special as your first so he/she deserves a celebration too=)

You're right, you shouldn't have to throw your own baby shower...no matter who you are or what your circumstances, the baby shower should always be planned and orchestrated by someone else FOR the mom-to-be. So you can tell your family they can forget about a baby shower if they don't want to plan it themselves. Make sure you point out that it has never been heard of among "normal people" that a mother should throw her own baby shower! The very idea!!
They may probably want free food and cake, or maybe they are just too lazy to plan it and want to guilt you into the planning just because you will be the recipient of the gifts. I think you have gotten some good advice so far, so I hope you can rest assured that you are not crazy to think you shouldn't have to throw a baby shower yourself.
