German Shorthaired Pointer, a breed that is often forgotten!

I totally agree with you, just don't let my dog read this or hear what we are saying. He is a shepard mix.
Mu daughter has a German shorthaired pointer and he is a wonderful, smart and funny dog. She picked him out at the dog pound in Alaska. I fell for him right away and Steph lives for that dog. In the winter he wears one of her sweaters to stay warm. He sleeps under the covers with her and her boyfriend accepts this. When he gets a muscle cramp he screams like a girl. He lost his best friend last fall. My dog, Starr, was 13 and she died of cancer. Buck cried and mourned for weeks after. He still has trouble being alone in the house.
I have looked at many pointers since and if I ever get another dog it will be a German Shorthaired Pointer. I got my Shepard because he was being abused and needed a home and so I took him in. He is a true love and I don't regret taking him in. He gives unconditional love.

Years ago when I was a child I had a German Sheperd named Skipper. He was my first dog. He was very protective over me. I mean I remeber getting off of the school bus when I was a child and Skipper would be right there waiting. So I would say that a German Shepared is my favorite kind of dog.

I would have to say my favorite dog is the Lhasa Apso. I used to have one and they are very friendly dogs.

Oh I have never heard of this kind of dog, it is very good though to have a dog as your protector, that is lovely that your dog likes to play and is a happy dog, and especially as she is easy to teach and train. My favourite breed of dog is the labrador.

I am not sue what my favourite breed of dog is? Posibly Jack Russells, as I had one for ten years & she was lovely.

I don't currently have a dog. I have a cat. When I was little we had a schnauzer poodle mix named Mitzi. She actually lived a very long time. I remember when something happened to her back leg and it had to be casted. We had to carry her down the stairs to go out when she needed to "use the facilities" She had to be put to sleep when I was around 15.
Then my mom got a cocker spaniel. Those ears! They were always dragging and dripping wet.
I want a big fluffy dog. When we are ready to get one we will go to the shelter and see what strikes our fancy.

Well, According to my old Highschool Notes.

The German Shorthaired Pointer came from Germany near the year 1600. It came about through crossing the German Bird Dog, and the Spanish pointer, and the English pointer.. and several other tracking and trailing dogs.

The breed is known for it's hunting versatilities of nearly all kinds of game. It is known for it's rustic looking appearance, and it's extraordinary hunting skills, in all types of weather, and terrain. The tail is usually docked to 40% of its length to prevent injury during the hunt.

The average approximate color is Solid liver, or any combination of liver and white, such as both ticked, or liver spotted and white ticked, or liver roan.

The average weight in females is 45-60 lbs and in males is 55-75 lbs.

The average height in females is 21-23 inches and in males is 23-25 inches.
