The Tomb of John Paul II - This is the tomb of the late Pope John-Paul II in Rome, as it looked in September 2005. When we went, you had to file past it in a queue of tourists. At the side of the tomb was a place where nuns and monks who were on a pilgrimage to Rome could wait with the Swiss Guard and spend longer looking at the tomb. We saw several nuns, elderly women, kneeling on the cold marble floor (bare-kneed and without mats or cushion) beside the tomb and crying.
