Prambanan - The great hindu temples at Prambanan were built between the 8th and 10th centuries AD. When Java were ruled buy Hindus in the north and and Buddhists in the south. In this temple 17 km east of Surakarta (Solo), you can see a mix of the two religions in it's architecture and sculptures. Many of the temples were destroyed by an eartquake in the middle of the 16th century and also by treasure hunters and people looking for building material. But it still is a great site with the temples proudly sticking up from the rubble!
