'Infiorata' - The 'Infiorata' in Gerano,a small town in the Tiburtinian-Sublacensiansis area of Lazio,has taken place continuosly since 1720 and is therefore famous as the oldest in Italy.(How the Italians love superlatives,the biggest,the oldest ,the greatest......etc.).Even during troublet times the people of Gerano decorated their streets on the Sunday after the Feast of St Mark,April 25.For 274 years now they annualy honour the Madonna del Cuore (Our Lady of the Heart)whose image was painted by Sebastiano Conca in 1726.It can be found above the main altar of the church Of Santa Maria Assunta in the centre of the town. Th e 'Infiorata' is one of Italy's most colurful and popular traditions.An 'Infiorata' has come to mean carpets of maintly flower petals formed intocolourful and decorative desagns and laid out along the streets.
