Shakespeare's House - Shakespeare's Birthplace is situated in the centre of town on Henley Street, Stratford-upon-Avon and was the place where Shakespeare was born in 1564 and lived with his family. It is also highly probable that Shakespeare and Anne lived here when they were first married. Shakespeare's Father, John acquired the main part of the property in 1556 and parts of the building was owned by descendants of Shakespeare's sister Joan until 1806. A pilgrimage for visitors for centuries, the property was acquired by a Trust in 1847. The House A trip to Shakespeare's Birthplace allows the visitor to take a step back in time and see what life was like for the young Shakespeare growing up in Stratford-upon-Avon. The house has been painstakingly restored, and through research includes both original and replica items similar to those which would have adorned the property when Shakespeare was a boy. Contrary to popular belief the Tudors were huge fans of colour and Shakespeare's Birthplace reflects this. Beautiful painted cloths adorn the walls and brightly coloured fabrics fill the rooms, all hand dyed in the traditional Tudor way.
