Whether you plan on hiking the Sierra foothills, or enjoying an evening concert at Tanglewood, picnics are a great way to relax, unwind, and enjoy the sights and sounds of the area. Where once lemonade and beer sufficed, the beverages available to today’s picnicker have increased in-step with the ever diversifying array of picnic foods – cheese and crackers, cold quiche, cold meats, sandwiches, salads and fruits, etc. Wine, like the rest of life, is subjective. While some prefer whites, other prefer reds, some love all wines, while others don’t like any. Provided you fall into one of the first three groups, the key to a good picnic wine is to find light and flavorful wines, red, white or rosé, that will complement your food rather than overpower, or be overpowered by it.
