Burundanga - Medical Source: Scopolamine can be used as a presurgical drug for the purpose of impairing memory of surgical trauma. It provides an initial knowckout effect, before the anaesthesia proper is administered, and has the added benefit of preventing long term memory formation during the period of time. At one time scopolamine was given to women during childbirth. When refined the powder yields scopolamine, a well-know drug with legitimate uses as a sedative and to combat motion sickness. Burundanga is a kind of voodoo powder obtained from a Colombian local plant of the nightshade family, a shrub called barrachera, or'drunken binge'. Used for hundreds of years by Native Americans in religious ceremonies.
