the Pantiles - The Pantiles was a social centre of the town. After finding the wells here, Royal family started to visit it. According to town's record, Princess Anne visited the wells several times before she became queen. When her son, the Duke of Gloucester, slepped on the muddy colonnade near the spring, she left money for it to be paved in 1698. Clay tiles called 'Pantiles' were used and the area has been known as 'The Pantiles' ever since.
