Bernina Express - Bernina Express  Bernina Express *** nominated for the UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Travel on the Bernina, the highest and steepest train crossing the alpine delight in Graubünden. There is twice as much to see as before along one of the most beautiful railway routes in the world.  The journey begins in Chur, continues along the Albula route into the Engadine and keeps on going - without cogwheels - over the Bernina Pass down to southerly Valposchiavo, over the spiralling viaduct at Brusio and on to Tirano. Cross the Alps from North to South (or vice versa) enjoying breath-taking vistas from the 1st and 2nd class panorama cars. Ride over graceful via-ducts, through switch-back tunnels, along rushing mountain streams, glaciers and even an alpine garden. Hear the narration all through the trip. The journey can also be extended to Lugano by bus in summertime. The train journey is for approximately 4hrs and the bus 3hrs.  Wagons - The wagons are the most modern, and air conditioned panoramic coaches. The only glass between you and the landscape is in your sunglasses. In the open-view coaches you can feel the sun and wind up close, hear the rushing of mountain streams and breathe fresh mountain air. Thanks to large windows extending to the top of the train, travelers are able to enjoy excellent panoramic views. Air-conditioning provides for comfortable, draft-free trips. Oh! What a feeling! It offers first and second class service as well as panoramic coaches. The variousand interesting coach options are the Stiva retica , Alpine Classic Pullman Express, The Starck Coach, Gourmino Dining Cars, Panorama Coaches, Historical Coaches and Wedding journeys.
