In bengal shukto is a dish eaten with rice. It is a curry made up of drumsticks, bittergourd, raw bananas and brinjal. All of them are cooked together. Sometimes potatoes are also given. They act as an appetizer.

In the monsoon the ripe papayas are very popular in Bengal. They are orange in colour and sweet in taste. The raw ones are used as vegetables and eaten rice. But the ripe ones are eaten and are good for health also.
