Has anybody ever heard of this? When you're on an escalator, I was taught that it's polite to stand on the right hand side and use the left hand side if you want to walk and get there faster. But I see people stand on both sides...

Take my advice, if you're wearing Crocs or flip-flop sandals, use the elevator instead of the escalator. Many escalator accidents involve the use of Crocs and other soft-soled shoes because they easily get caught in escalators....
