Whats the purpose of buy ripped jeans?

Honestly, don't you give ripped jeans to like salvation army and places like that? Why would you pay good/a lot of money for holey jeans? It defeats the purpose of jeans Let me know what you think about ripped jeans?

How many of us have a friend (or more than one) that are wonderful people, but who wear i.e. pleated pants with peg legs from the early 90s, or a sweatpant outfit that has bands around the botom and you look like a giant...
