How far apart is a good time frame to have your children?

I just had a baby 4 months ago and I was wondering how long is the average waiting period before couples start on a next. We are going through a pregnancy scare at the moment, and are truthfully not sure how we feel about it....

I have quadruplets. It was very difficult, it still is. People think I was crazy to keep all 4 babies. What do you think?
