Obama and GOP differ over recipe for jobs, economy email this discussion to a friend?

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama and a top House Republican acknowledged in holiday messages Thursday the economic struggles facing Americans this Thanksgiving but offered starkly different recipes for relief.

Obama and Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., singled out U.S. service members at home and abroad for special thanks before saying what they think should be done to fix the economy.

"As much as we all have to be thankful for, we also know that this year millions of Americans are facing very difficult economic times," Obama said in his weekly radio and Internet address. "Many have lost jobs in this recession - the worst in generations. Many more are struggling to afford health care premiums and house payments, let alone to save for an education or retirement. Too many are wondering if the dream of a middle-class life - that American dream - is slipping away."

Obama said his administration has acted by cutting taxes for nearly all working men and women and for small businesses and by extending unemployment benefits and health coverage for millions out of work. He trumpeted other administration initiatives, including the health care overhaul, before saying more needs to be done, particularly for those without jobs.

Obama said he will meet next week with business owners, labor leaders and nonprofit officials to talk about additional efforts to spur job creation.

"It is my fervent hope - and my heartfelt expectation - that next Thanksgiving we will be able to celebrate the fact that many of those who have lost their jobs are back at work and that as a nation we will have come through these difficult storms stronger and wiser and grateful to have reached a brighter day," he said.

Pence, the chairman of the House Republican Conference, said in the GOP's weekly address that Obama had promised that the $787 billion economic stimulus package would keep unemployment, now at 10.2 percent, below 8 percent. Yet, Pence said, the administration insists the stimulus plan is working.

"In the city and on the farm, as millions of American families struggle to balance their checkbooks this holiday season, they watch in astonishment as Washington spends billions of dollars it doesn't have," he said.

"And what is the White House's answer to our struggles? Another meeting next week. A 'jobs summit,' and most likely another proposal to grow government, raise taxes and place more debt on the shoulders of our children and grandchildren."

Pence said Obama and the Democratic Congress have taken the economy "from bad to worse with their failed economic agenda and big government plans" and now want the government to take over the nation's health care system.

"The way to stimulate this economy and help working families is to let Americans keep more of their hard-earned money, not taking more from their wallets," he said. "Republicans have proposals to get our economy moving again, to achieve energy independence and lower the cost of health care."

They yada yada yada....talk, talk, talk about the economy but they never get it fixed. People are suffering and only a very small minority are reaping the benefits of what's left of our economy. I though Obama would get in there and get it done, but he is dragging his heels instead of creating jobs.

Someone needs to take those big salaries and bonuses that the banking, investment, and oil industries are paying their top employees and spread that around some. The average worker is getting their benefits cut so those big hogs can gobble up the money for themselves.

It is time the American people said..."enough is enough" and limit just how much of the pie one person can get.

vic,

Do you really believe that it's the president that creates jobs? How exactly does he do that? By extending unemployment benefits? Hold a job summit?

Especially this president and vice president who have never held a legitimate job between them. Neither has ever run a company. Not Even a small business, how are they supposed to know what it takes to create jobs? Neither has ever created a job in their life. You say that "...he is dragging his heels instead of creating jobs." He is certainly not dragging his heels but you cannot point to one single thing he has done to create a job, he has only created discontent...and That is the true agenda.

Obama has to fudge the numbers to convince the American People that he has "Saved or Created" what,? 850,000 jobs, Meanwhile, Nearly 16 million are out of work.*1 Even if he was telling the truth it wouldn't matter. But he has to perpetuate his god like persona. Who is it that Creates and Saves? A vicar should know the answer to that one.

The way to create jobs....wait scratch that. You don't Create a job. What we need to Create is OPPORTUNITY.

And who is it that creates opportunity?

Give Up?

It's those guys that make the big salaries that create opportunity. Not greedy politicians who use misdirection to keep people blaming the ones that can help them, while they the Politicians take more money out of Your and My wallets. They don't ask for it. They don't earn it. They just take it. Under threat of prison. Before you even see it. And now that you and I are broke they are starting to take it from our kids and grandkids.

Forgive me vicar but you are a tool of these politicians. They use you to stir up discontent aimed at the wealthy so that they can drum up the permission to go after the money that those people have earned. And then what? Will that spur them on to work harder to create more jobs. Will increased regulation cause companies to bring jobs back from overseas? Why do you think they outsource jobs now? and turn illegals into virtual Slaves?*2 do you really think it's because they are jobs "Americans just won't do"?

How much should people be Allowed to make in your New World Utopia, vicar? How much regulation is enough, sir?

If government increases taxes on the rich(Takes their money) do you really think they are going to give it to you??? BTW How is that "War on Poverty" going? Has the government decreased poverty by even a percentage point since the New Deal?

And if the government increases taxes on the rich, Do you really think that the rich are going to dig a little deeper into their pockets to pay that extra tax? Or will they dig deep into YOuR pOcKETsfor that money? In the form of Increased Prices (do you know what COBD means? I'll bet Obama does),lower pay, And fewer jobs. We The People will be two time losers.

Why would "...banking, investment, and oil industries...top employees" Work hard to "CREATE" new jobs if they know that the government is just going to take whatever they make for doing it?

And what "Pie" are you talking about? Do you think that because one person makes a million dollars this year that, there goes a million dollars that you or I cannot make? Wherever did you get that idea? If that is what you think then you should look up the word "Opportunity".

And so we come full circle. It's a beautiful thing.

vicar,

Why do you continually avoid my questions? If you can't back up your statements against questioning, then you should not make them in the first place.

This is not the first time you have done this. Do you feel that what you say is beyond questioning?

Apparently you do. Or you are just a coward.
