Girl Scouts say scout's YouTube ad violates policy email this discussion to a friend?

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina Girl Scout's plan to use the Internet to generate more cookie sales is crumbling.

Eight-year-old Wild Freeborn posted a YouTube video in the hopes of selling enough boxes to send her troop to summer camp. But they said scouting officials told them it violated a ban on Internet sales and asked her to take it down after she scored about 700 orders.

Freeborn told NBC's "Today" show Friday that she and her Web designer father, Bryan, had honorable intentions and took orders only from their hometown of Asheville. Her father says the ad was just promoting the cookies, so he thought it was OK.

Girl Scouts of the USA spokeswoman Michelle Tompkins say promoting the cookies is fine, but the Freeborns ran into trouble because they posted the order form online. Tompkins says the organization wants to ensure fairness and protect the girls' safety.

While their intentions may have been right their thoughts weren't. Part of selling Girl Scout cookies is for the girls to get out there, learn about hard work and how to express them selves in a positive way to other ppl. It isn't about sticking up a website and sitting back watching the money and orders roll in. Alot of the lessons with Girl Scouts is doing things yourself, hard work and learning to work with your fellow Girl Scouts.

she was trying to do good. I amsure she was thinking that selling a lot of cookies would help her scout troop. It is good that girl Scouts of America is more concerned with how the cookies are sold than how many are sold. I respect them for that.

At least they are trying to ensure the girls' safety. Who knows how many predators might be online. Besides, placing the order online might deprive them of the social skills they might learn selling to people face to face.
