winewhisky responded to a discussion called potatoe salad in cooking.
I boil new potatoes, but take care not to over-boil them. I cut them in two (or into four if they are larger new potatoes) and mix them with some olive oil and white wine vinegar. I chop some spring onions or chives (depends what I have in the fridge). I mix in the onions and then mix in mayonaisse and then leave the salad in the fridge for a few hours before serving.

winewhisky responded to a discussion called Butter comes out of the fridge rock hard. What do you do to make it spreadable? in cooking.
You can lso put it in a plastic bag and put it into some hot water for a few minutes. If you can get rally hot water in your kitchen sink, you can do this in the sink. You need the water to be quite hot (just off boiling) and you need to leave the butter in it for 5 minutes or so. If you can't get hot enough water from your tap, boil it up first on the stove or in the kettle.

winewhisky responded to a discussion called what kind of food do you eat for breakfast this morning? in cooking.

I had griddled bacon with home-made griddle bread and marmalade. Yum!!!

winewhisky responded to a discussion called Are you nervous when meat from cloned animals enter the market? in cooking.

I haven't really thought about this yet and I also realise that I don't really have any information on which to make purchase decision judgements about. Will food be actually labelled if it comes from cloned animals?

winewhisky commented in a discussion called Have you been to the UK? in travel.

I use to go to Hove a few times when I was a kid as my grandad lived there but I don't really remember much apart from the sea front and his flat. I've been to Brighton but only for work reasons and I was only there for a day. I would like to go back and see the Royal Pavillion and other attractions. I've been to East Sussex, to Eastbourne. I love the seaside and would love to live by the sea.

I read the James Herriot books when I was a teenager. It also used to be on TV. I think they are set in Yorkshire, aren't they? I lived in Yorkshire for four years so I'm familiar with the area and it is wonderful and also where the Bronte sisters came from. If you do ever go to Yorkshire try and visit Howarth Parsonage, which is the family home of Charlotte and Emily Bronte.

I would love to visit Australia but it seems so far from here. I will get there one day I hope though.

winewhisky received a best response in the discussion stuffed zucchini.... by RLFinNash.
I've never had this recipe before but it looks interesting. In England we call this vegetable courgette rather than zucchini (zucchini sounds really strange). I've made courgette curry (it soaks up spices very well) as well as using it to make barbecue skewers. I mostly use courgettes along with red onion and tomato sprinkled with herbs and olive oil and baked in the oven. I call this 'mediterr...

winewhisky received a best response in the discussion How long the effect of coffee last in the body? by Cannonball.
I think it takes about 2-3 hours before the effects of caffeine start to go away but I don't know how long it takes on average for them to disappear completely. I will be interested to find out as I drink too much coffee myself! Thanks for asking such a useful question and I hope you get an answer.

winewhisky received a best response in the discussion Do you like eating carp? by lixiaos77.
It is traditional to eat carp for Polish Christmas Eve and usually it was too difficult to get hold of, and so we have salmon instead. When we managed to get it, it is served preserved in aspic. I have only ever eaten carp on this occasion so I don't really know that much about what is is like apart from in aspic. I can't really say what the flavour of the carp was as I remember the taste of th...
