A rare severe geomagnetic storm watch for parts of the US, the next two nights.

This is a very rare thing. I have been lucky to have been able to see the Northern Lights many times, but I do know it is rare to see them in some areas of the country. Tonight and tomorrow night may be your night! Look it up!! The downside being, the magnetic flares may cause communications to be disrupted, cell phones, signals, internet, etc. So, head's up!

I thought about looking for them, but I was already in my jammies, and it was cold last night. I also don't like to go outside in the dark by myself even if it is just on the stairs. Not a fan.

@MarieCoyle It isn't the two legged kind I fear. Not that I think I am going to get attacked..I just would rather not be out there

I understand. Normally, I wouldn't really hang outside by myself. But a lot of the neighbors were out there half the night, so I felt safe. My neighborhood is pretty quiet.

@snowy22315 I understand, some people just don't like to be outside at night, especially alone.

I read about this online, the Northern Lights are just beautiful, although I have only seen them during such events. But, to be perfectly honest with you, I don't find there is a downside, we should refer to it as a well deserved break.

It is a good time for me as I will pick up a book and read, which is one of my favorite things to do.

@MarieCoyle I think that is an excellent idea. So many people cannot function without their cellphone in their hand, talking or texting or video calling. It amazes me that they let life pass them by thinking that they are completely engaged.

@Juliaacv I recall stopping at a fast-food restaurant recently to use the restroom (I was out of town) and to grab a coffee and leave. There was a big table not far from where I was, a family of 6--4 kids and mom and dad. Every single one of them was on the phone. No one talked or looked around, they ate, and used the phones, texted, etc. No interaction at all. What a weird way to eat dinner!!

We lived right on Lake Erie for 7 years and saw the Northern Lights one night. It was really amazing. Have a good evening.

Scar, your Hoomin loves things like this. He will probably set a loud alarm to wake you up and drag you outside to see them. He might even take some cool pictures for your cat-cave, you just never know. Rest now, your Hoomin will be expecting you.

Aw.... god does compensate.... .. with tornadoes and storms, he decided enough is enough for the poor Americans. But ...its not fair to cut the communication and electronic stuff. When I go up, I will ask him why.

It was spectacularly visible over the UK last night too. I didn’t see it as I went to bed early, but there are some great shots from those who stayed up to watch. Happening again tonight but skies will not be so clear, so probably less impressive. Isn’t nature wonderful!

@just4him I will be the crazy woman outside looking for the Northern Lights...if it's really cold, I will wear my longest heavy wool housecoat over my sweats and really be a treat for everyone to see!

When there is some type of rare phenomenon happening, I don’t want to miss out on it. Chance of a lifetime, it was beautiful!! I am sorry you missed it.

I have read on the internet news about the Northern Lights coming in some parts of our nation. My area will be spared though.

I saw on our news it would make it as far south as parts of Texas, but not down as far as you are, George. Hopefully, there will be pictures.
