Cockatiels

I love cockatiels, but my cat already goes after my gerbil, and he doesn't understand that this "critter" is mine. I can't help feeling sorry for him. That's why I can't get a cockatiel, unless I moved out on my own. However, today was the first day I got to hold a cockatiel. I was in the pet store this afternoon, and one of the workers brought the cockatiel out of the room where they keep the birds. She let him fly onto my arm, climbed up my arm, and planted himself on my shoulder, like he was giving me a birdy hug. I had fun just talking to him, but that was an experience!

You can still get one, you just have to teach the cat not to go near the cage. The best way is to have a spray water bottle and spray the cat everytime it goes near the cage. And when you want the bird outside the cage, you have to confine the cat to a room.

Thats a good idea, although, if I did that, the cat wouldn't shut up until I let him out. I hate to get something else where he would go after it and not understand that he can't have it.

lol! i run a home based rescue, and let me tell you. all together(nnot always inside at once)lol! ok, 14 cats,3 5 week old kittens,10 dogs, one was dropped off in labor, she had 6 puppies, but we lost one,2 cockatiels,5 chickens,2 geese,1 parakeet,2 rats, and i thikn there are 8 hamsters, though one is being adopted out today. the cats would love to eat the birds, but the cockatiels hiss and will bite really hard! they can actually bite through a finger nail! our femaile is especially nast to the kitties, and wil bite their paws f they try to put them in. we let them out alot, and they fly around the house, and willoften land right in the middle of a bunch of cats, who act like they are being attacked and scatter! one of our hamstersis hudini reincarnate! she has been caught running down the hall, chasing one of the cats around the bathroom till she cornered it onthe toilet! i say,if you want a cockatiel, than get one! you cat may try,but one bie will probably be all it takes to teach her not to get to close to them!i worry more about the dogs, who have killed birds before! just let ktty know the bird is of limits.

I really want a cockatiel too but we have five dogs living in the house. They're so adorable! A place where I used to work had one named Sydney and he was the cutest little thing. I would hold him every day. He was so full of personality. I was so upset when his owner gave him away and I wasn't able to visit with him anymore.
