Have you ever been to a car cruise? I did a search on this subject before starting this discussion and it came up blank as in no results. So I'm thinking that maybe this particular activity has different names. Anyway, it is almost time for these events to start here in my area. A car cruise is like a get together of car enthusiasts. Usually classic cars. We go to the club and we bring our cars for everyone to look at, there are Camaros, Corvettes, Gto's, Baracudas, Trans Ams, you name it there will probably be one, but the trick is they are all from the 60's or before. These kinds of cars are what my generation called muscle cars, so watching the Fast and Furious movies gave me a chuckle. There are also less sporty vehicles to be seen like corvairs, falcons, novas, cutlasses, 57 and 55 chevys. Some of them even have copy cat cars like there is a Bullitt car and a Bandit car in the area. Of course you don't have to have a car to go, the public can go just to look and talk to the owners of these vehicles. Some of them are still completely stock while others are built. And I do have to add that there are some cars that are homemade built from the ground up. It can be quite and experience for old car fans and of course there is the music....they play all old tyme rock and roll and sometimes even have a live band. And just for the record it is free, except for the food and drinks and those are reasonable. They do a chicken barbacue everyweek for the eating pleasure of any that care to come. So I have to ask have you ever been to one, and do they call these events something different where you come from?

They are called "Car Meets" and they have them all over the counry. They are fun and really interesting from the old jalopy that is still running in tip top shape to ancient Rolls Royce polished and glistening like an old queen..

I was wondering what they were called elsewhere. How we got to calling them cruises I don't know but that is what we call them, every fri and sat night here there is one to go to. We have some awesome cars here to and many of the guys bring their cars that they are working on so you can see work in progress.

They call them cruises because they hail back to the days when gas was cheap and there was nothing to do but cruise up and down the strip, or main drag, and congregate at the local burger joint. I, myself, don't partake but my older sister and her hubby do. She has a mustang and he has his dad's old pickup. They travel all over for these things as well as meet at a certain burger joint locally, where there are photos of the club members cars on display.

This is the very first time I have heard of car cruises. I am not an avid fan of cars but I do admire those that are classic in design and has not been pimped. LOL. Nah, really, I have seen cars of the same kind gather in some gas station where the owners have some sort of club where they exchange ideas on how to dress up their vintage finds. Mostly, volkswagen.

The biggest car cruise in the country is about 50 miles away. It is held in August every year and is called the Woodward Dream Cruise. People from all over the country come to the Detroit area to take part. Something like 50,000 vehicles of evey kind usually take part. It is almost a week long event now and has been going on for 12 or 13 years I think. I used to like cars when I was growing up, but hardly pay much attention to them now. I have never been to the Dream Cruise. But usually it attracts over a million people. The parade of vehicles is some 15 miles or more long. One day I will check it out.

Wow this is interesting! I haven't heard of them, or have I? I think we have some of these e.g. Lexus Club around here where people who have cars of the same brand (usually a prestigious brand and they all love the cars from that brand) get together and exchange pointers about cars and have a good fun day. Cars are expensive in Singapore. You can buy perhaps 30 or 50 cars elsewhere with the money you need to pay for one. Anyway, even if I get a car in future, I am not sure if I will be keen to go on the car cruise you mentioned. When I get there. :P

Guess I would be better in the loop, so to speak, when I get a car of my own! :P

There are many different kinds of car clubs here, from brands to the cruises I am familiar with. The cruise is a club of old cars people have restored, this is a big dollar adventure, not that I have the money, but still fur to look at. We even have motorcycle clubs, one such club came through my town today on a charity ride, there was well over 100 motorcycles riding.
