It seems impossible to believe that the Crafty Cockney, Eric Bristow, was 50 today, 25th April. It only seems like yesterday when he was 25. Where have all the years gone.
Some thought him arrogant but in fact he was just super confident, as well he could be, since nobody has ever come close to his consistency in scoring and finishing.
He did not know my name, but I used to tag along with friends who were really good players, play a few rounds in the big tournaments, get knocked out and then if I could find Eric and catch his eye I would chalk for him. I still have a treasured set of his flights, which he took from his very own darts and gave to me.
Ah! Those were the days. So raise a glass to Eric, and let's wish him many more happy and healthy years.

50, gosh, how time flies and we don't realise how people get older if we haven't seen them for a long while.
I remember watching darts on Tv many years ago when hewas popular, who knows I may have seen you chalking up for him, what a lovley memory for you.

No, I never chalked for him on the TV, only at the smaller tournaments. All the on stage work was done by members of the BDO, it was sort of the icing on the cake, a reward for all the very hard work and long hours they put in year in, year out.
When you take part in activities, be it darts, athletics, regular boot fairs, or whatever, you all muck in and chatter together as it makes the time between matches, heats or sales pass that much more quickly.
I have loads of memories :-)

Really? Is that all... I thought he was older!!! lol.
Sorry... as you can probably gather, I'm not a big Eric Bristow fan... too lairy for my liking. Now give me Andy Fordham, John Lowe or Ted Hanky and I'll give them a game of darts and a birthday cake. ha ha ha
Brightest Blessings.

Each to her own lol. You missed your chance to try for a game with Andy Fordham, the pub he owns and runs with his wife is just down the road from me lol.
John Lowe is a wonderful Gentleman. I have never med Ted Hanky, but you never know your luck, do you?
Eric is still the King!

In his day he was the World No 1 Darts player and totally unbeatable. He just hit that treble 20 like a magnet and checked out every time. He was the most consistent player ever. There was an argument with the British Darts Organisation and the professional players set up their own organisation, and this coincided with a major change in the way darts was broadcast in that it went to the cable companies and only a couple of games were seen on TV. This not only radically lowered the profile of darts in the UK, but also the top players, who had formed the breakaway organisation, were banned from the BDO tournaments.
Eric has had many books written about him and he has produced a biography also. He is still active in darts.
He was awarded the MBE for his services to darts in 1989

Well the thing is the years fly and therefore everyone gets old before you realize that they are getting on, as you can see for yourself that the years just seem to slip away and before you know it that you yourself are this age of 50 I never thought that I would reach 50 years old but now I am over that and in my mature years like Eric Bristow. I would love to wish Eric Bristow a happy day and many more to come as long as health prevails.

This is true. He was an international Darts star, did you ever see him play at a tournament or on TV?
