It's quite hard to earn the respect of your subordinates specially when you're a lot younger than them. Think so? Have you been in the same situation? How are you handling it?

being younger than your subordinates is actullay tough, but still you could earn respect from them.
show them that you deserve respect, that is, speak through actions. it is indeed true that 'action speaks louder than words'. as a leader, they expect you to lead, and being a leader means you start things by yourself and show them, not tell them what to do. this is where some people fall. they think they're above everybody else and they just keep on telling everybody what to do without even showing them how to do it.
next is show kindness to them. when you're good to other people, they'll give you back the treatment you gave to them. people like to work around with people who knows how to respect and be kind and courteous to others. in that way, you just won't earn respect but admiration as well.
and lastly, show them that you're got authority. it doesn't mean that you always get what you want. being an authority means you're grounded on sound principles and can't just be toppled down easily when the going gets tough. confidence and guts comes into the picture in this. once they see this in you, they'll give you what your due

yup, what you said make much sense.i totally agree.you got to get people to know you a bit more and you will probably get respect from them.Sometimes the yougster always like to challenge the authority so being the elder, show them and your action rather than word can make a difference in time.i suppose it is a good way.

It is very hard to earn some respect from people who are much older than we do. I guess we should stay as what we are, just be yourself and do all the right things...
