I am a Christian, trying to understand more about the Muslim religion. Can someone please explain how the Sunnis differ in their beliefs from the Shiites? I would appreciate any help in this.

To Tigertang. I do care about the differences, because only when we understand the differences can we begin to try to work together. Thanks for posting!

Thank you for pointing out to me that the differences are important. If we didn't focus on the differences, we would not be here having a discussion and trying to air our views, which in the end brings us closser together. Peeronline, I think the Shias would disagree with your statement that they do not believe in the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) as a messenger of the Alimighty.

I think you may be right. It seems to me that many so-called "religious wars" are more about politics and power than they are about beliefs.
