I've been making my own soap for about a year now. It's one of the easiest ways to save quite a bit of money. The recipe I use is a bar of fels napth soap (about $1.20) one cup of super washing soda (the box costs about $2.00 and has at least 6 cups in it) and 2 cups of borax (about 2.50 a box and the box has about 10 cups). For about $2.00 I can make 5 gallons of laundry detergent, and it works great.

Do you have to special order the fels napth soap? or where do you buy it? I have been looking for it when i remember when I go to the store but so far I have not seen it,
I did look it up online tonight and saw several places that it can be ordered from.
I do need to cut down on expenses here as much as possible because everything cost too much.

oh there's also another soap you can use, but I can't think of what it is off the top of my head. Try googling "homemade laundry soap" and you're bound to come across other recipes. Basically you want a hard bar of soap, and not a deodorant soap. Ivory would probably work well too.

another thing you can do to avoid yourself the trouble of making soap while saving money is go to your local dollar store. they have small packs of laundry detergent very cheap! they are generic brands but work very effectively. "Ariel" is one of the brands I buy, but you might be able to find other ones also
