campaigning thru text messages?

Is this right, I mean the practice of campaigning thru text messages? I just received one message from an acquaintance and he's campaigning for a local position in our city. Do you think this is ok? What do you think?

I find text messaging for campaigning quite tacky. That's just my opinion. Here we already get voice mails, some e-mails, postcards in the mail - all to tell us about those who are running for office. We need something to be solicitation free! : )

I think that would be alright as long as he makes sure that his text campaigning is not irritating to the mobile subscribers.
