I have been suffeRING from ringing in the ears for about 14 years also known as tinitis (not sure of the spelling). This has only gotten worse over time. I have tried everything that I can think of IE: changing appetite, rid myself of chocolate, coffee, etc... nothing works. My G P says there is no cure. what can a person do short of death?. I have even tried to sleep with music, noise generators etc...but I had to refrain as it annoyed my partner.

I really feel sorry for you. When occassionally I get ringing in the ears, I feel claustophobic. My whole body revolts and I feel uneasy. Have you visited a specialist, a Ear Nose Throat specialist, who will guide you properly and not just a GP. 14 years is too long. Do please go and consult an ENT for proper guidance. My prayers are with you friend. You must be undergoing hell. Keep heart.

It seems like every time I lie down I get a little ringing in my ear but it doesn't last long. I thought it was just like any other time. I hope that's all it is. It's never caused me not to sleep.

There is no cure, but there are things you can do to help ease the discomfort. Eliminate caffiene and nicotine and lower your salt intake as much as possible. Also, try taking Gingko and see if this helps. You have to take it for a while before you see the results, but it is certainly worth a try. Also, you may want to visit a chiropracter and see if there is a certain manipulation that may help ease the discomfort.
