Do you rake up your grass clippings or let them lay?

After mowing, I just can't stand the look of grass clippings laying all around the lawn. So, I often get out the rake and get them up. Do you rake up your grass, or let it lay?

I leave the grass clippings on the ground. It makes a good natural fertilizer for the lawn. I use a mulch blade on my mower which cuts the baldes of grass small. You can hardly notice.

We bag our clippings for two reasons... first and most importantly, we use it to mulch our vegetable garden. It works really well to lay it in thick layers in the areas between rows. The second reason we bag is I hate have the kids track in all that grass when they go outside. It's bad enough I have dirt, sand, and bugs everywhere when the come back in. I see my neighbor mowed his today, and left it lay. SIGH. Guess I'll have grass inside anyway. The kids play in their yard, too. :(

What a great idea about the garden! I would think that might make it easier to walk between the rows after watering or a rain! Thanks for the response...here is a plus rating for you!

Thank you for the BR, ladyljs! Yes, those clippings help out a lot when trying to keep out of the mud. They are also great for keeping the weeds down, provided you don't have a lot of weeds in your grass. LOL! Can't say that we don't have weeds, but they do help!

I have a goat farm so I rake up my clippings and take them to the goat pastures for disposal. Of course, lately I just let the goats out of the pastures and they "mow" the grass for me!

Well I don't rake up anything! The base mows the front yard, and I never see any clippings there. My hubby does the back inside the fenced area, but I don't see any clipping, I think it goes into a bag in the mower. I'm not too up to date on these things. I am pretty sure i've never seen him raking any grass clippings though! If the mower didn't take care of it, I would probably make him rake it up since that's where the kids play!
