Is it just me or do you find if you let either your hand or feet get cold, that no matter what you do to keep the rest of your body warm, ie warm clothes etc, that the rest of you will get cold just becuae you let your hands or feet get cold? My feet are really cold right now as i was silly and took my socks off (i wore them all day at work and didnt think they were that fresh) but didn't put any clean ones on in replacement! Now, despite my thick fleece, my whole body seems to be getting colder...

It's because you're basically warming the floor, it is similar to how elephants use heat. They got their thick skin which is like our clothes, but through their ears there's a lot of blood flow through which they lose their heat to keep their temperatures a bit lower.
Same story pretty much goes for your feet, the blood flowing through it is losing energy in the form of warmth to the colder floor, then in the rest of the body it takes up energy again to warm up and flows towards the feet again where it gives it away. This process keeps going on and on making you lose energy.
With your hands and other parts this happens a lot less fast, because air doesn't take up energy as fast as solids, metals are pretty much fastest of all. Heat absorbing properties and such. So unless you're touching something with your hands, you won't lose that much energy due to it relatively speaking compared to your feet.
You can increase the loss of energy through your hands by flapping your hands and basically moving the air, but it remains less effective. When you touch something solid though it goes a lot faster just like with your feet.
In a similar way though you can also warm up your body quite easily by placing your feet in warm water, energy just going the other way this time.

Yes, I have this same problem with my cold feet. I can never get my feet to get warm unless I have a fever. lol I guess it doesn't really matter with me as my feet are always cold. I don't really worry about it anymore. :)
