My neighbors mow their grass in the evenings when all the good tv shows are on.

This is starting to really bug me. The weather is just starting to get nice and I can finally leave the windows open and get some fresh air, but my neighbors are mowing their grass. I like to watch tv in the evenings, and I'm not talking about early evening, it is after 8:00. So, I either have to close windows or not hear the tv. Why are people so inconsiderate?

Sorry, this is the price you pay for living in a small neighborhood. These neighbors that you think are being rude and inconsiderate, are merely doing their chores when they have the time and are motivated to get them done. When do you mow your grass, 8:00 on a Saturday? I say turn up the tv, close the windows and put on the a/c.

That seems late to me to be mowing a yard. We do it around here just after work which is around 6 and then we eat supper afterwards. That really does seem very inconsiderate.

That's about the time we do ours. And that makes sense to me, because it has cooled down a little, kids are still playing outside and cars driving by - so there is noise anyway.

My guess is that they dont even know that u are bothered by it. If u aheva good connection with them just ask them if they could do it at another time.. besides, they dont do it every night - or do they?

No they don't do it every night. But, for some reason they like to cut their grass. They do it about every 3 nights.

My next door neighbor mows her lawn after she gets home from work. I have heard her mowing around 8 once. It doesn't bug me, because I know that's around the only time she can mow the lawn. Now I have seen a couple of neighbors mowing there lawn late at night. I think it's weird to be mowing late at night when there is no light. Plus that is really rude, because that's when people are going to bed. We mow early in the morning right after the grass dries from the morning dew. I would talk to your neighbors ask them if they can mow at a earlier time, because that's when your getting ready to go to bed. Good luck.

What about the people who get off work at 5-6 o' clock in the morning. you're awake before work and go to mow the lawn, this is an agitation to neighbors who are getting off work to go to sleep at that time, just the same. That's just the convenient time.

Where I live you can be loud until 10:00 pm. I would mow my grass at 9:30pm if that is when I could do it. However I wouldn't break the law and would not go beyond 10 o'clock. You can close the windows and turn up the volume. Just be glad that they take care of their lawn. My neighbor mows their grass once a month. Just because 6:00 is a good time for you doesn't mean that it is going to fit into their schedule. I work a lot online why would I go outside and mow in the heat risking a stroke when I can work in the air conditioning then mow when it is cooler without the sun beating on me. I also have a landscaping company. I often work until dark which often includes mowing. That is how it goes if you want me to do it. I know we do a better job because I can see the work performed by other companies. No one has ever complained about us mowing until and after dark.

I know what you mean. My windows are open all day now. I use a large fan to cool the house and it was freezing the last 2 days. My neighbors don't take care of their lawn and rarely mow so I face different problems such as kids thinking they are going to have a party and blast music all night. One night they were playing drums. I am a musician so I have walked in their shoes but I wouldn't play drums at 3am in the morning. I called their landlord one night at 3 am and told him that he might put up with it but I don't have to. Then I called the police every time they were noisy after 10 pm and the tenants moved. It shouldn't have to come to that. It wasn't the kid's fault. It was the parents who raised their children to have no respect.

It is soon going to be warm enough for the air conditioner. It is just this time of year when it is so nice to have windows open.

I am a musician and I play instruments. I made sure my neighbors didn't mind, but I will never play the drums at 3 am. I think that's ridiculous. I feel it's acceptable play acoustic guitar or something but drums are awfully loud even around 6:30-7:00

It may be that they work late or want to wait until a cooler part of day to mow the lawn. I wonder if you might mention to them that 8 p.m. is a little late for firing up the lawn mower. People don't always realize they are disturbing someone else. They probably don't know that the lawn mower is drowning out your TV.

They probably don't realize they are bothering me. I don't think I have enough nerve to say anything to them. It is nice to know that someone else thinks its late to be mowing the lawn though. Thanks.

I honestly completely agree with you. I work two jobs, and my girlfriend works midnight shifts. Mowing the lawn is a task I really enjoy, but it's hard to get it done around "normal" schedules. I mean don't get me wrong, we feel rude doing it. To be honest some of your neighbors probably want to knock and ask if it's okay, but what if you are already sleeping? You probably sleep soundly through it most nights or maybe it gives you a chance to do those things you want to loudly for a moment. Everyone wants to blare the tv every once in a while haha I mean I just think it's neighborly acceptance. I accept your schedule if you accept mine.

I would be upset too...but for a different reason. My kids go to bed at 8pm and I would have the neighbors mowing their grass to keep them awake!! I think that is a little late to be doing loub chores like that, but everyone is different and has different schedules. But we can still be annoyed with them =)

And, there are families around here with young children. And, I'm sure it has to be annoying to them.

10pm is the normal cut-off for noise at night. I live in a neighborhood but in a part where the neighbors aren't right next to each other so mowing the lawn at 8pm is normal here. I can't handle the heat w/o getting really sick so I always wait till the sun goes down to mow when I can tolerate being outside. I even hear my neighbors clanging around at that time so noone is disturbed at that hour. Could be your neighbors don't realize they are disturbing you with their mowing. Doesn't hurt to pay them a nice visit for a friendly talk about it. Come up with some sort of agreement on when is the proper time to mow the lawn.

Unfortunately, it is their right to do that, which i know sucks but there's not a lot you can do. When it's warm, people like to wait until later after the main of the heat is gone to do things like that. Maybe you could have a word with them or something, there's no guarantee they'll change their ways but it cant hurt to at least try! If not, you could always try chatting with your council, they might be able to let the neighbour know they're causing a disturbance but here in Oz, during the week i think you can make as much noise as you like until about midnight so it might not be any different there!
5 May 07
i think the neighbor is doing it intensionally to annoy people around. only an idiot would like to mow the lawn at 8:00 pm in the night. why don't you also try to annoy him with different ideas , i know you must have some ideas to disturb the peace in his life.

this is realy bad thing its only the matter of attitude nothing else but i feel everyone should take care of others comfort too. It shouldn;t be like its my life i can do what i want to do when i want to do and where i want to do.....after all we are human beings. why don't to talk to them about the problem so as to get out with a better solution

Right, some people are inconsiderate. . so what did you do about it? Talk to them when they are not mowing, suggest to do it in the morning with a little help from friends, talk to your homeowners' association if any, etc. There must be some possible solution to this mowing problem. Perhaps they're at work during the day so the only chance they have is in the evening. . but they can always do it Sunday morning or afternoon. . .if there's a will there's a way... they may not even know that they are causing disturbance, so the best way to do is to talk to them.

Hadn't thought about the homeowners association. Great idea. Might work, because I'm sure it has to be bothering others.

Maybe it is because that is the only time of the day that they are able to mow the lawn. I do not think they are being inconsiderate and would ask them if they could cut it earlier or on the weekend. That does seem late to be mowing the lawn. I think it is even worse to mow the lawn in the early morning hours while people are still sleeping. That happens a lot around here and I find that more annoying.

Where we live most of all our neighbors all mow their grass at 8:30 or even 9:00pm. it is to hot in the summer to mow in the afternoon and most people like to do the mowing late in the evening when the sun is down, But I usually got on my AC.and my windows are closed and I dont hear the noise.

Most of the neighbors here mow towards evening too because it's after work and cooler , they probably don't realize it bothers you but yeah after 8:00 is not early evening...most are done here by 8:00 or shortly after.

It sounds like some scenes in the thrill movie, a roar begin to roar after the sunset. Think about it, lol. Ok, just a joke. I think, you should have a talk with your neighbor. Since he already disturb the other's life wiht his unusual life schedule.

I doubt it's intentional. I personally like to cut the grass in the late evening as well. There's something serene and utterly peaceful about night, and only hearing your mower.
