Have you ever smelled a cologne or perfume that has taken your thoughts straight back to that particular time?
What about the aroma of certain foods?
Sometimes I will catch a certain cologne scent that just stops me in my tracks and takes me back to a time long ago that I thought I had forgotten and conjures up old forgotten memories....

I do when it comes to certain Asian food here. Most Asian foods smell almost the same like my mother's cooking and that reminds me about my homeland. Of course then it makes me hungry too :)

I LOVE Asian food. It smells and taste wonderful. It is one of my favorites when we go out to eat. Reminding you of your homeland would be nostalgic to say the least. A lot of memories, I am sure. Thank you so much for sharing.

Yes this has happened to me many times. Also sometimes when I'm sleeping, and in a dream I'm having I will smell certain scents. I wake up thinking and wondering about it, and it drives me nuts.

I rarely remember my dreams, IF I dream. I would imagine that waking to a scent in a dream would make the dream so much more vivid, if you remember the dream upon awakening.
But, if you don't remember...well, that would drive me nuts, also!

you couldn't have timed this discussion any better , My hubby bought some deodorant when we were shopping last week and I loved the smell , he was laughing with me as I kept sniffing him ( sounds like a dog lol ) anyway it reminded me of johnson's baby products , It wsso nice that I went out last week and bought myself a bottle of johnson's baby shampoo( lola a 65 year old baby) anyway I was so disappointed because it no longer has that lovely smell , so I just went out and bought more deodorant instead lol , xx

I know...it seems like some things from way back just aren't the same anymore..some foods just don't taste the same..scents have changed. And yes, some deodorants do have scents that also remind me of old fragrances...
(I do that too..sniff someone like a dog when I like how they smell..lol, not strangers, of course)

When I read this post I immediately thought of "Love's baby soft" perfume and "coty wild musk". Brute men's cologne does the same exact thing to my brain. It is really weird how certain aromas can trigger a memory. The only kind of food that has this effect is the smell of greasy food like the kind you get at a carnival or movie popcorn.

Sometimes when I smell school cafeteria food when I used to pick my kids up at school, it used to conjure up old memories of school days. But, yes, certain colognes and perfumes seem to be attached to memories of people. It can take you right back.

My aunt who has passed away now god love her had this 'scent' I only ever smelt it when I stayed with her in her home and it was a very nice smell, it always reminds me of her, well the other day I was on the train and all of a sudden that smell hit me, I looked around to see where the smell was coming from I couldn't work it out, it gave me flashbacks on holidays and good times when I was young when I went up to stay with her. I never got to the bottom of just where the smell came from.

I think it is amazing how something like a scent or song can take you back to a moment that was long forgotten and you feel as if you were whisked right back into that time.
Only I can do without some of the bad memories being brought back into the now, as I am sure we all can.
Thanks for the response Wolfie, I enjoyed reading it :)

Yes I have. Some smell, some taste, or even song songs.
You may or may not know why but it does tug at a heart string somewhere. It may make me feel nostalgic or something.
Oh well. :P
