No its not really dirt. Its a dessert that when we were kids was called dirt. It has oreo cookies and I think cream cheese and we used to put candy worm on it. Does anyone have a recipe for it? I would love to make it for my kids.

Here is the recipe you are talking about. I posted a discussion about it a few weeks ago. You can also find it here as well.http://www.kinderart.com/kitchen/dirt.shtml DIRT A yummy recipe submitted by Susanne Koenig. Ingredients: Ground Oreo®s Cool Whip® Gummi® worms Plastic or Real flowers (Keep the little water-holding dealy on the end for the real) Clay pot Directions: It's simple. Layer the ground oreos and cool whip, put in worms occasionally. Top layer should be the oreos. Stick in flower. Makes a great present, and a terrific hit at family get-togethers, the kids get a real thrill out of sticking their spoons into the "decorations" and showing the older adults it's only a dessert in disguise.

When I made this for my son's birthday one year,I used chocolate pudding, crushed oreo's and gummy worms. I lined little clay pots with foil before putting the dirt into them. Then I put in a flower sucker in each pot and had the worms sticking out. The kids all loved it.

I remember the dessert, but I can't remember the recipe. I have a version of it that I make that we really like. I make a batch of chocolate cupcakes and a chocolate cake and crumble the cake up into a 9x13 glass baking pan. Then I add cream cheese frosting to it and stir it around and mix in some crumbled oreo cookies and dry cake mix sometimes. I also sometimes put crumbled up chocolate wafer cookies in it too. (Easiest way to crumble them is to put them in a ziploc bag and use a rolling pin to crush them down. Do it gently though or the bag migt tear) Then I put the dirt frosting on top of the cupcakes and stick in a gummy work. I hope that helps you a little. The way I have had it has been parfait style. Individual cups with chocolate pudding, whip cream & crushed Oreo cookies layered a couple of times and then gummy worms on top. Haven't had it with cream cheese myself, but there may very well be a variation that uses it.

The way I alwasy make "dirt" is I put an oreao cookie crumb crust at the bottom of a big bowl, make up 2 packages of chocolate pudding, then put in the gummy worms or what ever "dirt" creatures I want to throw in. ~ PurpleTeddyBear. ~
