what do you like to use for scrying?

I prefer black mirrors or a bowl or puddle of dark liquid, or water on a dark surface.
one of the best things I've ever tried scrying with was at a beach where one of the large rocks had a hole worn in it that just went straight down and was full of water, no growth or creatures in it, just a dark tube of water heading down.
on a very dark night, a window when you're indoors is good too.

Not meaning to sound ignorant here, but could you please describe in detail what scrying is? I have never heard the term. Although my son practices Wiccan. I used to read tarot cards as well. It was really exciting to me.

I'm not gifted in scrying, for some reason. The tarot 'talks' to me much more. The only vivid experience I had with scrying, was ironically done with a tarot card.
I use the Vampire Tarot by Nathalie Hertz, in it is a Moon card that has a large image of a pale white moon. While doing a reading for a friend, I caught a brief vision of her in a photographer vest on the reflection of the card. When asked, she replied that it was the career she was thinking about (she did not tell me this beforehand)

I have tried scrying but I find I'm not that good at it. Or at least I'm not good at it when I try to do it. If I'm just staring off into space I will have images come to me, especially if I'm staring at something like a cloudy sky or a dark mirror. If I actually try to see the images I cannot do it or the images can't be grasped once I concentrate on it.

I've actually never tried scrying. It scares me a bit but I really can't explain why. Scrying just doesn't speak to me, tarot cards call me more than any other form of divination. That doesn't mean I won't try scrying in the future, just now it's not something that I've used.

I've tried mirrors, crystals, and flame, before, but with little success.
I'm hoping to try to work on this, but I'm not sure if I've any strength in this area. For getting advice, information, I tend to rely on my dreams and tarot more...or simple requests for a sign from my Lady. Normally these things work so well that I don't really try much else...but scrying is a skill I've always thought I should try my hand at.

I have a large wooden bowl that belonged to my grandmother. I stained the inside with an ebony stain and then coated it with beeswax to make it water proof. I didn't use a varnish because I wanted to keep the essence of the wood. The outside of the bowl I carved with glyphs that are of a personal nature to myself. When I need it, I just fill it with water and I'm ready to go. I've been using it for many years now and hopefully I'll be able to pass it on to one of my own grandchildren.

I'm pretty sure they use the same neural pathways, scrying and what I do, only the technique is taught very differently, and the Terminology is different.
Remote Viewing. Haven't studied scrying but after a first search it sounds a lot like RV, in that it manages intuitive input, information received by intuitive channels.
Had any cool results with scrying in your life ?

usually when I'm looking for something that's been lost, I'll get some idea of where to find it. that tends to be my biggest success in scrying.
or I'll see animals, and from that animal work out a quality of that animal that gives me an idea for what sort of approach needs to be taken in areas of my life.

I had made my own scry mirror years ago, but two years ago it broke. So this last year we used a black bowl with water to do our annual Samhain scry. It worked very well, but the added element of water added a new aspect to the scry and I think that it definately had it's effects.

the first time I heard of the term scrying was on charmed. I offten see different images in marble when i am relaxed. I am not sure if this is the same thing because i have never really tried to hold on to the images.

i have more luck without tools to be honest, but i have to enter a trance like state, and that usually involves a lot of music... and meditation. I saw angles one time protecting us from a car accident, which we almost got into later that evening it was pretty crazy. I've had a few other experiences, some with spirits others that were kind of scary that i don't really know how to explain other than i ended up somewhere where i don't think i should have been. For predicting the future however I've had a lot of luck with the tarot. The easiest tarot deck is the Rider Waite or however you spell it lol. I have tried other deck, my second favorite is the necromonican, however if you aren't into dark images it probably isn't a good deck but i personally enjoy it. I have a crystal ball but its clear glass and reflects to many other images for me to use it. I would like to get a hematite sphere sometime in the future. Thanks for posting!

I have heard interesting things about the Necronomicon deck.
lately I've been finding the Brian Fround Faery Oracle very useful. it sounds a bit airy fairy, but it's not. it's faeries as they really are, rather than the sanitised version.
Haematite might not be so great as a scrying surface, just because it's so grounding. it might be hard to get into the right state of mind. maybe look for Obsidian or something similar if you prefer a dark surface.
but we're all different, I know someone that can only scry when they're wearing Haematite, so it might help.
always interesting to get different ideas on it.
