Somebody hit my mailbox yesterday!!!!

I heard a loud thud outside my house around 9.30pm last night. I was too afraid to open the door to look outside (who knows what's outside, right?) so I asked my husband to look. He turned on the porch lights and looked outside but he said he can't see anything out of the ordinary. But this morning just before he went to work, he discovered that someone had knocked over ours and our neighbour's mailboxes! That explains the loud thud. But because our mailbox is all the way at the end of a long driveway, my husband couldn't see it last night. It was definitely a car cos' some parts of the car was all over our yard! Both our mail boxes were crushed! Tire tracks were on our driveway. It was some scary driver! We suspect it's someone who's probably drunk or fell asleep on the wheel. We had a police officer come over. But there's nothing much he can do. He also said there has not been any other reports of suspicious activity in the area last night. Can you imagine if that had happened during the day when my neighbour or I were out getting the mail??!! That is so dangerous. Do you think this is something that homeowner's insurance covers? I doubt we would even try to make a claim as it's not a big expense and the damage is small but it's just really inconvenient. I have to wait for my husband to come home tonight to fix the mailbox. Urrgghh!! Stupid driver.

I know that is frustrating. Instead of crushing it about four years ago someone took our mailbox during the night. It was one of those mailboxes that looked like a barn. It was a very nice one and I was extremely proud of it. I was so ticked off! We called the police but they said unless we actually caught them doing it there was nothing they could do.

Im sorry this happened to you hun. If these people are going around doing this for fun maybe they will be caught. And you can maybe ask that they buy you a new mailbox.

I a just glad that you and your family were safe inside the house when this crazy person hit your mailbox!!!!!
I know that this is a unnecessary inconvenience....
I doubt if it would be even worth you filing with your home owner's insurance policy.....probably be more of a hassle than it would be worth for such a small incident....although, I completely understand you being upset about it....
This type of situation is exactly why people like this continue to get away with it....just like Paris Hilton...they think they are above the law....with no clue who did this....they actually do get away with it...at least, for now....evenutally they will hit something that they can not drive away from....they believe that they are in complete control.....until it is too late.....
Take care, my friend.

That's what I'm thinking too. It's too small to even bother with insurance. It's not like they crashed into our house...now, that would be a different story. Anyway, we fixed our mailbox last night.
