Causes of tartar around our teeth?

I brush my teeth 2 to 3 times in a day. It makes me feel fresh everytime I do it. While looking at my mirror, I have noticed that there are still black tartars around my teeth. I brush my tooth thoroughly to remove all the dirts from what I eat and drink. I wonder why I still have some of it in my teeth. Do anybody know why and how it is produced? Can I prevent it from continous production? It does not look good for someone. I guess it may also cause bad breath, right? I need to know more, this is for our personal hygiene.

i brush my teeth more than 3 times a day. yet, i still have tartar build up. we are supposed to use dental floss to be rid of 80 percent of the dirt that cling to the teeth. there are some food particles which are difficult to remove and plain toothbrushing will not shake them off. see the dentist at least once a year for a prophylaxis, that is cleaning of the teeth. it is advisable that we see our dentist for the cleaning every six months but, i do it only once a year. i am finding this to be sufficient.

That's true. I have my first ever cleaning this year, lol! Yeah, it's true. I was not able to have a yearly dentist check up. I'm afraid to visit them specially when I was a child.
